Second Annual Girls Coalition Conference for Professionals:
From Imagination to Realization: Equity and Economic Empowerment for Girls
March 24, 2010 at the Sheraton Station Square; 9:30am to 4:30pm
The Girls Coalition is proud and excited to announce that the second annual conference will include nine presentations on various topics effecting girls and young women, including addressing violence among girls and young women, stress in adolescence, and Title IX.
The conference also will feature keynote speaker Dr. Bertice Berry, well-known sociologist, author, and educator.
Full conference details, schedule, speaker and moderator bios, and online registration are available at the Girls Coalition website. CEUS will be available for Social Work, Psychology, as well as Act 48 credits for educators.
In
recognition of the current economic climate that has caused many
organizations to cut professional development budgets, and through the
generosity of our sponsors, we have kept the registration fee as low as
possible.REGISTER NOW: Early registration is available until March 5, 2010 for $65; after March 5, $80. |

Girls on the Run at
Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC Opens Spring Registration
Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC is now registering grade
school girls for the spring session of Girls on the Run (GOTR) and Girls on Track. Programs begin the week of March 1 and run through May 21. Registration
deadline is February 24th. Girls
on the Run at Magee is now in it's 10th year and about 800 girls
will join this spring!
Girls on the Run is a character development program that encourages preteen girls to develop self-respect and healthy lifestyles through
running. Girls train for 12 weeks
with certified GOTR coaches for the 5K run event on May 16th which is open to the public. This spring there will be 56 Girls
on the Run program sites in southwestern PA for girls in grades 3-8. Contact Meredith or Andrea at

Celebrating PROGRESS

Cool Stuff and Opportunities for Girls

Summer Engineering Experience for Girls (SEE) -
ICES, Carnegie Mellon University
The Summer Engineering Experience for Girls (SEE) is a
two-week program for girls who are entering the 8th and 9th
grades and are interested in math and science. The theme of "SEE" is energy, and girls have an opportunity
to learn about different forms of energy that are efficient and environmentally
friendly. Girls conduct hands-on
experience in different areas of engineering and have the chance to explore
areas of interest to them and to learn how they can make a difference through
engineering.
SEE 2010 runs from July 12th through July 23rd. Girls accepted into the program attend
for free. Applications are now
being accepted, and the deadline is Monday, May 3rd. For more information or to download an

4th Annual Girls Going Places Entrepreneurship Conference
The Pittsburgh's 4th Annual Girls Going Places Entrepreneurship Conference will be held at Chatham University on March 9, 2010. This is a one day conference for girls ages 12 -18. Participants will interact with women business owners and business leaders from our region. The focus of the day is to raise awareness about entrepreneurship and to stress the importance of being financially self reliant. This program is sponsored by Hurley Associates, Guardian Life Insurance Company of America and partners, National Association of Women Business Owners, Center for Women's Entrepreneurship at Chatham University, Communities in Schools of Pittsburgh- Allegheny County and Women's Independent Press. While visiting us online, find contest details and entry forms for the the 2010 Girls Going Place Entrepreneurship Award. This annual Guardian initiative is designed to reward the enterprising spirits of girls ages 12 to 18. Guardian awards prizes nationally to 15 girls who demonstrate budding entrepreneurship; are taking the first steps toward financial independence; and make a difference in their schools and communities. Every year, prizes totaling $30,000 are granted to three top winners and 12 finalists, to further their entrepreneurial pursuits or save for college.

intentions of mothers and their pre-teen and teen daughters toward the new HPV
Vaccine
Mothers will participate in a 2-hour discussion and also a
90 minute information session.

Part-Time Therapist Needed
Anchorpoint Counseling Ministry is seeking a part-time therapist (state licensed and HMO credentialed - UPMC, Highmark, United Behavior Health) to work a minimum of 8-10 hours a week. The ideal candidate must be a well rounded team player who is able to provide counseling to youth, adults, couples and families. The candidate must also be willing to participate with the entire clinical staff team to provide creative and dynamic ideas to support our mission to bring hope and understanding in our communities through our Christian Ministry.
