Second Annual Girls Coalition Conference:
From Imagination to Realization: Equity and Economic Empowerment for Girls
March 24, 2010 at the Sheraton Station Square; 9:30am to 4:30pm
The Girls Coalition is proud and excited to announce that the second annual conference will include nine presentations on various topics effecting girls and young women, and will feature keynote speaker Dr. Bertice Berry. Girl Gov Application Available
Girl Gov is an initiative of the Allegheny County Change Agents. Regional Change Agents is a project of the Women and Girls Foundation. Girl Gov is a one-day legislative shadowing program for girl's grade 8-12 who live in Allegheny County. The Girl Gov shadowing program will take place on Monday, March 8th (International Women's Day) and applications are due by February 2, 2010. Participants in the program will be selected to shadow a state representative for a day in Harrisburg, PA. The Women and Girls Foundation will sponsor a day-long trip to Harrisburg for all participants. Transportation and meals will be included.The goals of the Girl Gov initiative include:- Girls will learn about effective government practices;
- The initiative will provide an opportunity for girls to explore a career in government service;
- The initiative will help to influence girl's future professional decisions and career aspirations;
- The initiative will inspire girl's to be more interested in politics;
- The initiative seeks to make participating legislators more aware of issues effecting women and girls in SWPA.

Cool Stuff and Opportunities for Girls

Summer Engineering Experience for Girls (SEE) -
ICES, Carnegie Mellon University
The Summer Engineering Experience for Girls (SEE) is a
two-week program for girls who are entering the 8th and 9th
grades and are interested in math and science. The theme of "SEE" is energy, and girls have an opportunity
to learn about different forms of energy that are efficient and environmentally
friendly. Girls conduct hands-on
experience in different areas of engineering and have the chance to explore
areas of interest to them and to learn how they can make a difference through
engineering.
SEE 2010 runs from July 12th through July 23rd. Girls accepted into the program attend
for free. Applications are now
being accepted, and the deadline is Monday, May 3rd. For more information or to download an

4th Annual Girls Going Places Entrepreneurship Conference
The Pittsburgh's 4th Annual Girls Going Places Entrepreneurship Conference will be held at Chatham University on March 9, 2010. This is a one day conference for girls ages 12 -18. Participants will interact with women business owners and business leaders from our region. The focus of the day is to raise awareness about entrepreneurship and to stress the importance of being financially self reliant. This program is sponsored by Hurley Associates, Guardian Life Insurance Company of America and partners, National Association of Women Business Owners, Center for Women's Entrepreneurship at Chatham University, Communities in Schools of Pittsburgh- Allegheny County and Women's Independent Press. While visiting us online, find contest details and entry forms for the the 2010 Girls Going Place Entrepreneurship Award. This annual Guardian initiative is designed to reward the enterprising spirits of girls ages 12 to 18. Guardian awards prizes nationally to 15 girls who demonstrate budding entrepreneurship; are taking the first steps toward financial independence; and make a difference in their schools and communities. Every year, prizes totaling $30,000 are granted to three top winners and 12 finalists, to further their entrepreneurial pursuits or save for college.

intentions of mothers and their pre-teen and teen daughters toward the new HPV
Vaccine
Mothers will participate in a 2-hour discussion and also a
90 minute information session.

Part-Time Therapist Needed
Anchorpoint Counseling Ministry is seeking a part-time therapist (state licensed and HMO credentialed - UPMC, Highmark, United Behavior Health) to work a minimum of 8-10 hours a week. The ideal candidate must be a well rounded team player who is able to provide counseling to youth, adults, couples and families. The candidate must also be willing to participate with the entire clinical staff team to provide creative and dynamic ideas to support our mission to bring hope and understanding in our communities through our Christian Ministry.
