Profiles
Call for Amazing Girl Nominations
The Girls Coalition of Southwestern Pennsylvania is always accepting nominations for "Amazing Girls" to be featured in our newsletter. The purpose of this feature is to hear about
girls who may be "truly amazing" but have not yet been recognized. Please share your recommendations, and we can all see how she shines!
Send us an email about an Amazing Girl you think we should profile.

Member Profile: Women's Law Project
The Women's Law Project is a nonprofit feminist legal
advocacy organization with offices in downtown Pittsburgh and Philadelphia. All
of our services are free, and consultations are confidential.
Since our founding in 1974, our mission has been to end sex
discrimination and improve the lives of women and girls. One of our most
important cases was Planned Parenthood v.
Casey, a 1992 U.S. Supreme Court case challenging Pennsylvania's
restrictive abortion law, which is widely credited with saving the core of
abortion rights. Here in western
Pennsylvania, we are working on gender equity in schools. We currently represent female students at
Slippery Rock University in a Title IX class action that has won significant
improvements in the athletic program for women. Our advocacy led the Pittsburgh Public Schools to undertake a
comprehensive Title IX audit of its high school athletics programs to
determine whether girls are treated equally. We also have been instrumental in expanding civil rights protection
through enactment of a new Allegheny County ordinance that prohibits
discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, gender identity and gender
expression. Our new manual, Are Schools
Giving Female Athletes a Sporting Chance?, is available through our
website, www.womenslawproject.org. Contact us at infopitt@womenslawproject.org.
