Our Mission
Triad Health Project provides emotional and practical support to individuals living with HIV/AIDS, to their loved ones, and to those at risk for HIV/AIDS; implements strategies to educate those at risk and the community about HIV/AIDS; and advocates locally, regionally, and nationally for individuals and groups infected with or affected by HIV/AIDS.
Our Vision
We will stand together for as long as it takes until HIV/AIDS is no more, working together to promote enlightenment, dignity, acceptance, understanding, and love, demonstrating that we are not only enduring this epidemic, but prevailing over it.
Did you know that 37% of THP's funding comes from individuals just like you? Now more than ever, your gifts play a tremendous part in helping THP fulfill its mission. When you contribute to THP in any amount, you stand with us in the fight, and you stand up for everyone we serve.
Thank You!

Inside THP
Monthly Musings from THP's Executive Director
"Sometimes I need only to stand
wherever I am to be blessed."
~ Mary Oliver
Mary Oliver is one of my favorite poets and her words most perfectly capture the past several weeks at THP.
Beginning with our urgent plea for our bare food pantry right before Thanksgiving, we have been amazed by the outpouring of love and compassion and generosity that has engulfed us.
My mind races with so many images as I compose this message:

The "traffic jam" one afternoon as three different groups from our community arrived at the same time with bags upon bags of groceries for our clients.
The volunteers that circled back to Urban Ministry on Thanksgiving Day after they had delivered their assigned meals just to see if we needed any more help.
The waves of walkers in their
"I WALK" shirts cresting the hill as they returned to War Memorial Stadium on a brilliant Winter Walk Sunday.
The THP board room transformed into the North Pole and overflowing with brightly wrapped packages for our clients' children.
The first client who arrived on the morning of our Holiday Open House and saw the tables of freshly baked goodies and food and asked softly, "All this is for us?"
I have been in the "business" of fundraising for almost 20 years, but I have never seen anything like this past season at THP. All of us on staff were witnesses to what I can only call grace. Abundant grace.
Our hearts are so full and our spirits are so high as we begin our 26th year of service to our community.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Winter Walk - Most Successful in History
| |
The 20th Annual Winter Walk for AIDS was a tremendous success! Over 1,500 dedicated supporters came out to walk and raise money and awareness for those infected with and affected by HIV/AIDS.
Now for the news we've all been waiting for: The 20th Annual Winter Walk for AIDS raised over $140,000 - more than 35% higher than our goal! We are so grateful for everyone who played a role in making this the most successful Winter Walk in history! The money raised will go a long way in funding the vital programs and services THP provides in our community. Thank You!!
This year's theme was "I Walk" and our community answered the call to remember those whom we have lost to AIDS and to honor our friends who are receiving services and support through Triad Health Project.
Thank You To Our Co-Chairs
Parker Washburn and Ron Johnson spoke at the opening ceremony and shared their very personal reasons for walking, including their desire to carry on the legacy of Ms. Leon, THP's first guardian angel.
Thank you Ron, Parker, and the entire Leon's family!
Thank You To Our Wonderful Sponsors and please remember to support them throughout the year!
It's not too early to mark your calendar
for the 21st Annual Winter Walk for AIDS
on Sunday, December 2, 2012.

HIV Treatment as Prevention:
The 2011 Breakthrough of the Year
| | |
The study in question appeared in the August 11 New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM) and showed that giving antiviral medicines to HIV-infected people when their immune systems are still relatively healthy made them 96 percent less likely to transmit the virus to uninfected partners.
Not only are people who are effectively taking their HIV medications helping to slow the effects of the disease on their body, but they are helping to slow the spread of the disease. Click here to read more about this interesting breakthrough.

It's not too late - Year End Campaign

Have you made your New Year's resolutions? Maybe instead of focusing on what you have to give up, you can think about what you have to give. It may be a new year, but it is still not too late to contribute to our Year End Campaign!
Over 1/3 of THP's revenue for programs and services comes from the support of individuals and businesses. Your contribution today will strengthen THP's ability to continue to serve the needs of over 500 individuals living with HIV/AIDS in our community during 2012, and reach hundreds more with our HIV testing and HIV prevention education programs.

Ken's Infamous Cookie Recipe
| | |
Two years in a row, we have begged THP Development Director, Ken Keeton, to share his cookie recipe that he brings to the Holiday Open House. He didn't invent the recipe, but simply tweaked it to make it more yummy.
Lemon Vanilla Butter Cookies
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/3 cup vegetable shortening
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- zest of 1 lemon
- 1 large egg
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 1½ cups all-purpose flour
- 3 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon lemon extract (Ken's secret ingredient)
|
THP receives about 1/5 (20%) of our funding from these two United Ways. Without your support and the generous commitment of all who contribute their hard-earned dollars to their United Way campaigns each year, THP would not be able to offer the range of client services and prevention education programs that we do today.
Thank You!

Get the Facts:
HIV in the US
| |
- The latest numbers from the CDC show that only 28 percent of the nation's 1.2 million HIV-infected people are getting effective treatment - that is, antiviral medications to keep the virus in check.
- Twenty percent of people living with HIV/AIDS have not been tested, so their HIV infection is unknown to themselves or their doctors.
- Nearly 40 percent of the total - and half of those who've been diagnosed as HIV-positive - have not been linked up with HIV care.
- Sixty percent of those who enter care drop out.
- Only a third of all HIV-infected people get anti-retroviral therapy.
- Some people who get the drugs don't achieve control of the virus.
- About 17,000 Americans still die of AIDS every year.

Client Holiday Party
| | |
Our 2nd Annual Client Holiday Open House at THP was a huge success. Not only did clients with families get to come pick up gifts, staff and board members brought in homemade goodies and we feasted on good cheer as clients came in to snack and pick up gifts for their families.
Thank you to our many community supporters who sponsored our families with gifts!! Pictured below is Donna Gloo from Aetna and THP staff preparing for a big pick-up of gifts for our clients. |

THP Volunteers Rock!
| | |
Thank you to the many volunteers who have helped THP raise funds and awareness this season.
From gift wrap at Barnes and Noble, help at Winter Walk, to coordinating Holiday gifts for our clients, we have the best volunteers in town!
We are still looking for a volunteer with a truck who can pick up our food order from Greensboro Urban Ministries once a week and volunteers who can delivery groceries on Thursdays. If you are interested in one of these volunteer positions, please contact Ken Keeton.

Client Story of the Month - Follow Up
| |
Last month, the Women's Group wrote to Governor Beverly Perdue about the lack of resources available to those living with HIV in North Carolina and the importance of funding to support the little resources that are available.
A week later, staff received a letter from the Governor stating that the group's concerns were immediately forwarded to the Department of Health and Human Services. We hope that the Women's Group collective voice is heard and that people are listening!

| Rock the Walk Update | | |
We owe a big thank you to our friends who made Rock the Walk possible, including:
The Flat Iron for hosting our gig and donating a portion of drink sales to Winter Walk.
The three amazing bands who performed: Amelia's Mechanics, Nervous but Excited, and Emily Stewart and the Baby Teeth.
And of course, everyone who came out to enjoy an awesome show and support us! You Rock!
