Our Mission
Triad Health Project provides emotional and practical support to individuals living with HIV/AIDS, to their loved ones, and to those at risk for HIV/AIDS; implements strategies to educate those at risk and the community about HIV/AIDS; and advocates locally, regionally, and nationally for individuals and groups infected with or affected by HIV/AIDS.
Our Vision
We will stand together for as long as it takes until HIV/AIDS is no more, working together to promote enlightenment, dignity, acceptance, understanding, and love, demonstrating that we are not only enduring this epidemic, but prevailing over it.
Did you know that 37% of THP's funding comes from individuals just like you? Now more than ever, your gifts play a tremendous part in helping THP fulfill its mission. When you contribute to THP in any amount, you stand with us in the fight, and you stand up for everyone we serve.
Thank You!

Inside THP
Monthly Musings from THP's Executive Director
|
"History is a guide
to navigation in perilous times.
History is who we are
and why we are the way we are."
~ David C. McCullough
|
At THP we live in the moment addressing the needs of our clients on an hourly basis. We don't often have the luxury of reflection.
However, in this, our 25th year, we have been intentional about remembering our rich history. At our monthly staff meetings I have invited folks who have played a significant role in THP's history to come and share their reflections on our quarter of a century of service to our community.
We have witnessed a remarkable tapestry of recollections filled with tears and laughter and hope.
And that is why it is so appropriate that our honorary chairs for the upcoming 20th Winter Walk for AIDS are Parker Washburn and Ron Johnson.
Parker is the daughter of the late Aileen Oldham, know to most as "Ms. Leon" - the matriarch of Leon's Beauty School and Leon's Beauty Salons. Ms. Leon was an early and fierce advocate for people living with HIV/AIDS in Guilford County and THP's Winter Walk became her rallying event until her death in 1994.
That's when Ron Johnson, a local attorney, answered Ms. Leon's challenge to raise more money to support HIV positive people in need. Ron has been the leading Winter Walk fundraiser ever since. Ms. Leon was apparently gifted in the powers of persuasion.
So this year when we walk at Winter Walk, we will, as always, be raising funds and awareness for THP, but we will also be walking in the shadow of the legacy of courage and compassion that Ms. Leon and so many others have left upon this agency in these 25 years.
I hope you will join us on Sunday, December 4th, but if you can't, do take a moment to remember...
With gratitude,
Addison Ore
Executive Director

Client Story of the Month
| | |
We all know about the pharmaceutical advances that have allowed for those living with HIV/AIDS to live longer and healthier lives. The amount of medications can be overwhelming for many clients. A long time THP client had experienced a rapid decline in health because she was unable to remember when and which medicines to take and when to take them.
Ellen McAngus, Clinical Specialist, introduced her client to a website, mymedschedule.com, as an easy fix to this problem. This free texting program (incoming text rates apply to individual cell phone agreements) allows for people to enter in the type, amount, and times to take their medications.
As a result of this service, the client's viral load went from 37,000 to 250! Her health has rapidly improved and she is now able to participate in her day-to-day activities without the burden of feeling sick.

National Coming Out Day
| | |
THP encourages diversity and openness. We want all people to be who they are and to love who they love - whether they are gay, straight, transgendered, HIV+, HIV-, Hispanic, Caucasian, African American, etc. You get the drill.
Did you know Keith Haring (HIV+ artist and activist) created this poster for 1988's National Coming Out Day?

'A Day with HIV in America'
| | Positively Aware, a bimonthly magazine with circulation of more than 100,000 that focuses on those who treat and live with HIV, has announced the launch of the website for the second annual photo essay, 'A Day with HIV in America'. This photo series highlights individuals and families with HIV/AIDS as both recognition for the positive things in their lives, as well as an attempt to erase the stigma that surrounds HIV and AIDS.
Check out this awesome slideshow and the promo video. |

Another Project Shimmy Success!
| |
The 3rd Annual Project Shimmy was held on September 10, 2011 at the Broach Theatre and showcased a wide variety of world dance and entertainment, with all proceeds benefiting Triad Health Project! The audience really enjoyed the performances and the organizers moved to engage in a discussion about how both belly dancing and HIV/AIDS are largely misunderstood.
We are so grateful to Torque and Twisted Dance Studios for continuing to generously share their talents with our community in support of the mission and work of THP.

THP's 20th Annual
Winter Walk for AIDS
Sunday, December 4th, 2011

Triad Health Project is proud to be among the 30 participating partner agencies of the United Way of Greater Greensboro, and the 29 partner agencies of the United Way of High Point. THP receives about 1/5 (20%) of our funding from these two United Ways. Without your support and the generous commitment of all who contribute their hard-earned dollars to their United Way campaigns each year, THP would not be able to offer the range of client services and prevention education programs that we do today. When you give to the United Way, you enable local service agencies, like Triad Health Project, to serve the needs of our neighbors and friends, and by doing so, you help to build a better and stronger community for everyone. The 2011-2012 United Way campaigns is underway, and we hope that you'll give as generously as you can. The Greater Greensboro and Greater High Point communities are counting on you. Thank You!

Congrats Grasshoppers!
| | |

Greensboro's own Grasshoppers have won the South Atlantic League Championship, an incredible feat after not qualifying for the playoffs in over a decade.
Greensboro secured its first title since winning three straight from 1980-82, when it was known as the Hornets during the franchise's first three years in the league. The club was renamed the Bats in 1994 and, finally, the Grasshoppers in 2005.
Grasshoppers President and General Manager Donald Moore made a "Guarantee to Give" playoff pledge last year, saying the team would donate $5,000 to 20 charities if the team made the playoffs. That's a total of $100,000 in donations.

Food Drives

We are extremely fortunate to have the support of our community! Last month, Gentiva and Syngenta had huge food drives and all of the food collected was donated to the THP pantry! Many of our clients live below the federal poverty level and a bag of groceries from our pantry makes a big difference in their lives. Thank you Gentiva and Syngenta!
