Our Mission

Triad Health Project provides emotional and practical support to individuals living with HIV/AIDS, to their loved ones, and to those at risk for HIV/AIDS; implements strategies to educate those at risk and the community about HIV/AIDS; and advocates locally, regionally, and nationally for individuals and groups infected with or affected by HIV/AIDS.


Our Vision
We will stand together for as long as it takes until HIV/AIDS is no more, working together to promote enlightenment, dignity, acceptance, understanding, and love, demonstrating that we are not only enduring this epidemic, but prevailing over it.

This quotation reminds me of my dear colleague, Sharon Lipscomb.  For 20 years Sharon has been making people living with HIV/AIDS in our community feel welcome and safe.  As the Director of High Point Services for THP, Sharon opened THP's High Point office and has never stopped opening doors for our clients all across Guilford County.  She has always done whatever it takes to help people in need and going way beyond the call of duty is standard procedure for her.  She has held the hands of too many people as they lay dying from AIDS.  And yet, somehow, she can still offer a spectacular smile to the new client walking through our front door. And she can still offer hope.

 

She is a tireless advocate for people living with HIV/AIDS and is an articulate and powerful voice for those who often don't have one.

 

There are no words to adequately convey our appreciation for Sharon's service to THP.  Thank you is all we have.

Torque and Twisted Dance Studios are pleased to present the 3rd Annual Project Shimmy, an exciting evening filled with a wide variety of world dance and entertainment, with all proceeds benefiting Triad Health Project!  This popular event always draws a crowd, so get your tickets today!  Prizes will be raffled for great items donated by a variety of Greensboro merchants.

Client Story of the Month

Over the summer months, our women's group decided to take a break until September.  Despite the lack of meetings this summer, the effects of the group are still being seen in each of the women's lives.  There has been one success story that has touched both Allyson and myself, and has continued to remind us how important it is for women to come together. 
 

One of our discussions was about the importance of medication and how HIV affects the body.  A participant admitted that in the twenty-plus years of knowing her status, she had not consistently been taking her HIV medication.  As a result, her immune system was not very strong and without a significant lifestyle change, it was inevitable that she would get sick in the near future.  Other participants would engage this person in conversation about her medications because they were truly concerned for her.  

 

At one meeting, our group participants were treated to a wonderful dinner and presentation, thanks to one of our local drug reps.  The presenter was a dynamic speaker and had a story that was similar to that of our women participants.  We were all captivated by the presenter's message and our participant who had not been taking her medication was inspired to make a promise to herself to change her life.  Since then, she has been clean from substances for several months and reports that she takes her medications regularly.  

 

At her most recent doctor's visit, her Viral Load and CD4 count significantly improved.  Seeing the change in this woman reminds me just how important it is for women to have an opportunity to meet together, share struggles, and create a network of support, encouragement, and accountability.  I look forward to meeting with this group of women in the Fall and hope to share many more successes of women helping women in our community.

Greensboro's Central Carolina Fair is Coming September 16-25, 2011

 Welcome Julie!

 

 THP welcomes Julie McKnight, our new Administrative  Assistant.  Julie is a great new addition to our Greensboro  office.  She is a local artist with a studio in downtown's  artist collective, Linden Street, where she works  with stained glass. Very active in her church and various  softball leagues, she stays busy! Be sure to welcome Julie  when you greet her at the front desk!

Stellar Summer Volunteer

Greensboro's THP office was lucky to have Cat Beck as our summer intern.  Cat is a rising sophomore at Northwest High School and spent two days a week volunteering in the food pantry.  She made up bags to distribute to clients, stocked our shelves, and set up for the weekly deliveries.  Cat always has a smile and an eagerness to make a difference. We look forward to having her again next summer!

 Triad Health Project is proud to be among the 30 participating partner agencies of the United Way of Greater Greensboro, and the 29 partner agencies of the United Way of High Point.  THP receives about 1/5 (20%) of our funding from these two United Ways.  Without your support and the generous commitment of all who contribute their hard-earned dollars to their United Way campaigns each year, THP would not be able to offer the range of client services and prevention education programs that we do today.

Diversity Month!

On August 23, 2011, Governor Bev Perdue signed a proclamation to establish September as Diversity Month in NC!

"This will be the first statewide diversity initiative in North Carolina," Gov. Perdue said at the International Civil Rights Museum in Greensboro, where the proclamation was signed. "It will open up a new understanding and new relationships across our state."
