United Way proud

Triad Health Project is proud to be among the 30 participating partner agencies of the United Way of Greater Greensboro, and the 29 partner agencies of the United Way of High Point.  THP receives about 1/5 (20%) of our funding from these two United Ways.  Without your support and the generous commitment of all who contribute their hard-earned dollars to their United Way campaigns each year, THP would not be able to offer the range of client services and prevention education programs that we do today.

When you give to the United Way, you enable local service agencies, like Triad Health Project, to serve the needs of our neighbors and friends, and by doing so, you help to build a better and stronger community for everyone.  Soon, the 2011-2012 United Way campaigns will be underway, and we hope that you'll give as generously as you can.  The Greater Greensboro and Greater High Point communities are counting on you.

Thank You!

Our Mission

Triad Health Project provides emotional and practical support to individuals living with HIV/AIDS, to their loved ones, and to those at risk for HIV/AIDS; implements strategies to educate those at risk and the community about HIV/AIDS; and advocates locally, regionally, and nationally for individuals and groups infected with or affected by HIV/AIDS.

Our Vision
We will stand together for as long as it takes until HIV/AIDS is no more, working together to promote enlightenment, dignity, acceptance, understanding, and love, demonstrating that we are not only enduring this epidemic, but prevailing over it.

Dear Friend of THP,

Change always comes bearing gifts.

~ Price Pritchett

If the above quote rings true, Triad Health Project will be quite fortunate in the coming days.

I have several staffing changes that I want to make you aware of this month.

First, I am so proud to announce that THP Development Director Shane Burton has been named Executive Director of the Guilford Green Foundation.  Shane will bid farewell to THP on August 5th, after almost six years of service beginning with his role as Director of Community Involvement.

We are delighted that Shane will only be down the road a bit working with one of our most treasured community partners.  GGF has long been a vital supporter of THP's work and we congratulate them on their wonderful hire.

Ken Keeton, Development Associate, will transition into the role of Development Director effective August 16th.  Ken brings twenty years of marketing and project management skills to his new role as well as an ever-growing list of new and innovative ideas!

Shana Carignan, Administrative Assistant, will assume the position of Development Associate effective August 16th.  Shana recently completed her Masters of Public Affairs with a concentration in nonprofit fundraising and management from UNCG, and she is chomping at the bit to put her development skills to work in her new role.

I love the fact that Shane, Ken and Shana were all volunteers for THP long before they joined our staff.  This reflects so highly on not only the agency, but this community that continues to embrace and support us - for 25 years.

Change is a given in any organization, but one thing that will never change at THP is our deep commitment to our mission and our profound gratitude for your support.

Many thanks!

SISTA logo

SISTA is a group-level, gender- and culturally-relevant intervention designed to increase condom use among sexually active African American women. Five peer-led group sessions are conducted that focus on ethnic and gender pride, HIGV knowledge, and skills training around sexual risk reduction behaviors and decision making.

THP Health Educator, Lakecia Owens, leads SISTA sessions in our community.  Here, she reflects on how SISTA truly can change lives by sharing the story of one young lady who recently completed the program.

"There was one participant who struggled with self-esteem issues and opened up to me after the focus group.  She was abandoned at a young age, and slept with random men in order to compensate for her low self-worth.  She also told me that she loved to fight, even going so far as to refer to herself as someone who "was not to be messed with".  She felt that the world was against her.

I think that first session helped her acknowledge her inner strengths and made her a more prideful person.  The third session taught her how to assertively communicate, which was extremely important to me since she was a fighter.

After the intervention, I gave her my card, and she calls periodically to keep me abreast of new changes she is making in her life.  When I am on the campus, I occasionally see her, and she appears to be a changed young lady.  Her hair is beautiful, and she is quite the social butterfly.  She exhibits high levels of self-esteem and she is always smiling!

I think the most influential part of the intervention was bringing these young women together, and teaching them how to love and respect themselves.  Now that she has found those key elements to success, I'm sure that she will make conscious decisions, and will do everything in her power to protect herself against HIV and other STDs."

"Remember to be gentle with yourself and others.  We are all children of chance and none can say why some fields will blossom while others lay brown beneath the August sun.  Care for those around you.  Look past your differences.  Their dreams are no less than yours, their choices no more easily made.  And give, give in any way you can, of whatever you possess.  To give is to love.  To withhold is to wither.  Care less for your harvest than for how it is shared and your life will have meaning and your heart will have peace."
