Employee of the Second Quarter

reba

Reba Spencer has always been an asset to The Event Team but this quarter she really stepped up and proved her dedication to us.  In April, we had 3 clients signing contracts

within 3 weeks of running.  Since the operations team was on the verge of being stretched to the limit, Reba was brought in to run a program from soup-to-nuts.  Without missing a beat, she took over all communication with the client, staffed her events and was even able to help with a few other programs administratively.  Throughout the rest of the quarter Reba has been available as staff, for advice and lending her knowledge to help the Operations Department run programs more efficiently.  We love our seasoned staff, and we love it even more when they can jump in and take charge. Thank you Reba for always being there to support us and make The Event Team shine.

picnic people

Picnic People has always been an ally when it comes to planning outdoor events. They make the process of securing permits for venues and alcohol a breeze, and they are experts in facilitating fun!  This quarter, Picnic People and their fearless leader Blake Richards went the extra mile for The Event Team when a client needed a last-minute venue change. They helped us find a perfect alternative venue that didn't cost our client their deposit and they were very active in the planning stages so no detail slipped through the cracks. Thanks to their efforts, the event was a smooth success! We are so appreciative of our relationship with Picnic People, and we can't wait to work together again!

Relatively Speaking...

This issue is all about the importance of relationships. Everything about our business comes down to PEOPLE, and we believe our strongfamily tree relationships with clients, hoteliers, vendors and staff are what sets The Event Team apart from our competitors.  While it is so important to keep up with social media trends (see all the ways you can connect with us online to the left of this column?), we view these tools as a way to add even longer branches to The Event Team's ever-blooming family tree. We'd like to thank you for being a part of our family- we owe our successful year to you!
It's All Hood - Getting Social in SoCal

Have you had the chance to check out our new blog? Make sure you do! One of our favorite new features called "It's All Hood," and it details our adventures out "in the field."  We make it a priority to get out of the office, get to know our vendors and ask them about the new and exciting venues and activities we can offer our clients.  In the last quarter, we have visited Beverly Hills, Hollywood, Santa Monica, Anaheim, Laguna Beach and Irvine.  Next month we are gearing up for our annual "Tramp through the Gaslamp" in downtown San Diego, where we will visit 13 new venues. A few highlights are listed below - just in time for summer!

Santa Monica: Like any beach city, Santa Monica offers a much-needed breath of fresh air.  Residents can't get enough Vitamin D here- outdoor dining, lounging and shopping is all the rage. Ifannenberg beach house your preferred mode of transportation is a beach cruiser, we suggest going coastal in Santa Monica. Daytime activities are Santa Monica's forte. We can offer a shopping shuttle to the newly-opened Santa Monica Place (adjacent to the very popular Third Street Promenade). Or if you want the true sand-in-your-toes experience, we can host a beachside pool party complete with yoga classes and bike rides at Annenberg Community Beach House (pictured).

Laguna Beach: This small stretch of Southern California boasts several resort accommodations, a small but stunning art community, and 7 miles Heisler Parkof beautiful beaches that will leave you breathless. Don't waste time indoors- enjoy all the natural beauty this neighborhood has to offer! On Land, we recommend spending a couple hours on a guided bike tour along the coastline, weaving in and out of the area's quiet and charming residential areas. By sea, we recommend a kayaking tour or stand-up paddle-boarding lesson. Follow up your activity with a gourmet picnic lunch at Heisler Park (pictured).  And don't forget to check out all the wonderful art!. The ultimate Laguna Beach art experience would be a summer visit to he Pageant of the Masters- This year's event runs July 7 - August 31st.

Downtown San Diego: Grand openings seem to be happening every night this year! We are excited about AIRR Supper Club's rock star chic, cutting edge design and Stingaree nightclub's latest renovation called Guest House, which will feature sleek, avante-garde dMission Breweryesign and a fun "Texture Mapping" wall. San Diego has quickly become a craft-beer mecca, and the Gaslamp is finally represented in this arena via Mission Brewery, which just opened in the neighborhood's historic WonderBread building.  All of these fresh new venues are available for small group outings or large-scale offsite events! Just call The Event Team and we'll make it happen.

Again, don't forget to follow our blog, where you can get to know The Event Team and the beautiful cities we represent!

Getting to Know The Event Team:  Bill Yahres

We are habill yahresppy to announce that we are having a great year, and while everyone on the team has definitely done their part to contribute, we owe a very special shout-out to superstar VP of Sales & Marketing Bill Yahres.  Working with The Event Team since 1992, Bill has been an active member of our industry, notably serving as president of SDMPI in 2008-2009. He is also having a fantastic year from a sales standpoint, so we thought we'd pick his brain and share his expertise:

What is the one thing that's been consistent in the industry?

The end result - that is, our customers still require creative and successful solutions for special events that fit their specific group profile all at a fair market value.

What is the biggest change you've seen?

Relationships are still extremely important; however, the way in which we conduct business and approach our clients has changed dramatically due to the advancement of technology.

What is your approach to selling?

Spend more time listening to your clients and less time boasting about your company's accolades.
