Peter Green

Once a FOTET (Friend of the Event Team), Always a FOTET. Even though Pete is no longer energizing our office with his daily presence, he is still a big part of our events.  During the third quarter we had several teambuilding events where  Pete officiated with as much panache as ever.  Pete is one of our most engaging OICs (Official in Charge)- participants love his rapier wit and adorable British accent.    Although Pete insists that he does NOT have an accent - he says "English is MY language - it's all of you Colonials who have the accent".    No matter what a program entails, Pete brings an expertise and flair to it like no other.  Peter always goes above and beyond, has great ideas on how to improve an event and is always thinking of how to promote TET in the best way possible.  He is missed everyday in the office.....but still seems to know when to show up for all the "birthday lunches"!

 MCAS Miramar

"I feel the need, the need for speed!"  If there is one vendor/venue that is always consistent and easy to work with - that is MCAS Miramar and Gary Karr.  Although the movie Top Gun is over 20 years old, it seems that clients never tire from wanting to get a glimpse of where it was filmed and what goes on at a working military base.  Touring the flight line, talking to active officers and getting a peek into their world is a fun way for groups to add something unique to their meeting.  Gary and his team work hard to provide a place that 'takes you away' for the night.  Gary is one of our most easy-going vendors; he's always on top of his game and really knows how to make his venue shine.  When we propose events at Miramar, we know that we never have to worry - it will always be flawless because Gary is there 100% of the time, checking, double-checking and making sure every expectation is met.  The Event Team is proud to partner with Gary and his team on all sizes of events and looks forward to a long-lasting relationship and many more events down the road (or should we say flight line?)

Our marketing department is looking for some fresh new testimonials to add to our materials, and we thought we'd ask YOU (our favorite staff, vendors, hotel partners & clients) to tell us how you really feel. All you have to do is tell us what you like about The Event Team.  As a thank you, each person who submits will be entered in a drawing to win a $50 AmEx gift card!

While we are looking for testimonials, keep in mind we always welcome any kind of feedback or criticism- it's one of the best ways we can improve!

President's Letter
matt presCome with me on a brief history of the DMC world. Many years ago, meeting planners used our services  primarily because they had money to spend and they knew we would do a great job. Then down came the economy, and many planners thought they could stretch their budget by researching cities and handling all event needs on thier own. Fast forward to the present, and we've noticed (thankfully) that planners are re-building their  relationships with us.  They realized that going direct was not saving them money or time. They were spending weeks putting events together, they didn't always make the best choices, and without  local buying power, they were spending more than the DMC was charging.   Welcome back Meeting Planners- We still love you and we're looking forward to working with you!

We are the local experts, and we know what is going on in our cities. We know what is hot, and we know what will work for you and your budget. We love being a Destination Management Company (DMC). Our "beat" is Southern California; not a day goes by where we don't learn something new and fun about our city. Please don't be the stressed-out Meeting Planner standing on the curb waiting for a Motorcoach that is already an hour late wishing you had used a DMC.

Locals Know Best
As your Southern California experts, it is our job to give you the latest and greatest information on the region.  That's why it's important for us to go out and continuously re-discover our cities.

Last month, the entire team took a field trip to Little Italy, one of San Diego's hidden gems that is thriving thanks to local revitalization efforts.  Little Italy is a perfect place to take groups that have already become familiarized with the Gaslamp District, Old Town, and the beaches.  With a rich history that includes a moving shoreline, underground liquor bootlegging, and war heroes, groups will walk away with a deep appreciation for the culture-that-could.  The neighborhood is perfectly laid out for Italian dine-arounds, with combined restaurant seating for over 500 guests. Bravissimo!

Geocaching Los Angeles - Think of it as a modern-day treasure hunt, where GPS systems lead teams to each cache, or target.  Each target can be utilized as a team challenge checkpoint, or as a hiding place where "treasure" can be found. In the end your group will not only experience the benefits of teambuilding, they will also have fun exploring interesting Los Angeles landmarks and unique historical sites. Still don't understand what Geocaching is exactly? Check out this video!

Rancho Los Lomas

In Orange County, the unique private estate Rancho Los Lomas allows us to offer exclusive event space that captures the elegance and class of the region, along with an exotic twist.  Owner Jeannie Lawrence and her late husband Rick built their dream home using inspiration from their world travels.  The Spanish-style site includes an open-air theatre, dining & meeting rooms, botanical gardens and a permanent collection of exotic animals like tigers and zebras.  Rancho Los Lomas offers a fabulous environment for all-day events...a perfect one-stop shop for all your indoor and outdoor group gatherings.

Industry & Techology Trends

Thanks to speedy technological advancements, we are finding more simplified ways to communicate with our clients, staff, vendors, and hotel partners.  It is so much easier to stay connected and share information!  Speaking of sharing information, we came across a great article that shared FREE useful phone applications for planners, so we thought we'd share a few with you!

Air Me: Works as built-in scanner and fax for easy image sharing

Locly: Having a last-minute event emergency? Among other features, this app works with your phone's GPS system to find nearby businesses that might come in handy.

Personal Assistant: Keep all your accounts, passwords and usernames in one location so you'll never have to remember how you spelled your first pet's name again.
