Employee & Vendor of the 1st Quarter |
|
Catherine Cox |
| With a staff roster of over 100 between San Diego, Orange County and Los Angeles, there is always one name for LA programs that comes to mind: CATHERINE COX! Catherine has been with The Event Team for over 5 years. During that time she has proved over and over how reliable, knowledgeable, personable and fun she can be. Catherine continually goes above and beyond her role and always makes sure our clients have a great time and get the most out of their visit to Los Angeles. We've even had a few international clients that want to take her back home with them! When Catherine is staffed on a program, we know the clients will be well taken care of during their stay. From basketball games to city tours to greeting them at LAX, Catherine is always a professional and her attention to detail ensures that a program will run smoothly. It is our pleasure to recognize Catherine Cox as our employee of the First Quarter for 2010.
Harbor Excursions
Margie Wilson at San Diego Harbor Excursions is one of our favorite clients to work with and her bubbly personality and enthusiasm for creating the perfect event for our clients is contagious. Margie always works with us to give our clients an unforgettable experience, but this past quarter, she has really gone above and beyond all expectations. On more than one occasion, Margie has upgraded a group to a larger vessel without charging us extra. Out of the kindness of her heart - and knowing that a great experience could result in a repeat event - she has helped The Event Team shine and create flawless events. During this economic climate, where every penny counts and guests want more than our budgets allow, it is a pleasure for The Event Team to know we can count on Margie to help us make the impossible possible. Thank you for being a part of a great first quarter!!

President's Letter
Welcome to the Spring issue of The TET Gazette. We are off and running in 2010, and this is our time to stop and smell the roses or at least plant the seeds for a new tomorrow (too cliché?)
I want to quickly comment on "Social Media," but this letter will not be about the typical old guy who has trouble understanding or appreciating new media. In fact, I love it all and am blown away by how people and companies are using technology to connect with others. In the very beginning I was skeptical- it just didn't seem like you could really communicate by sitting in front of a computer. It felt impersonal and cold. The truth is, it doesn't matter what I think because you can either get on the bus or get run over by it. Besides wishing I was the one who invented Facebook or Twitter, I can't wait until The Event Team has tons of friends and followers so you can see how much fun we are! (Become a fan here!)
A few quick thoughts about The Event Team and Spring:
- We are staying active and up-to-date. We're embracing the latest trends like Zumba and the Flip video camera. And as always, we're keeping close tabs on all the new venues and clubs in Southern California.
- As I look at the picture at the top of the Newsletter, I am willing to bet that we were the last group they let take a picture with the Killer Whales at SeaWorld.
- We are blessed with incredible people who work with us, and we are so happy that Romy Segall (who has been the heart of our company for over 7 years) is engaged to a great guy like Gavin. Congratulations to both of you!
I am still very positive and happy about 2010 but I am a realistic bottom-line guy, so ask me again in July!

Zumba Zumba Zumba
Getting fit and having fun!
February fitness was the name of the game when The Event Team got together with our hotel partners for an hour of fun-filled zumba dancing and smoothie drinking at 97 Horton. Melissa, our awesome instructor led us through several exciting, upbeat routines that had everyone laughing and smiling. It was a great way to blow off steam after a long hard day's work! Kudos to our very own Dick Burson; he gets the only-male-of-the-day award! That takes guts!
Zumba classes are the latest fitness craze, and they are perfect for active groups or spouse tours! With minimal setup, these classes can be held nearly anywhere, from hotel ballrooms to outdoor parks or beaches! Contact us if you have a group that may be interested in seeing what the fuss is all about!

Flipping Out
Technology Trends in Event Planning
As we move full steam ahead into the 21st century, The Event Team is finding more and more unique ways to marry the latest technological trends with our industry. Our latest obsession is the Flip Camera. This pocket-sized user-friendly camcorder has been a valuable tool for both our sales and operations teams. Sales Managers take the Flip on site inspections and can immediately email footage of venues to our clients to utilize as a frame of reference when selecting off-site locations. Our Operations Team loves using the Flip to capture the actual day-of events, switching back and forth between video and still frame shots. These pictures and videos can be uploaded seamlessly onto our social media sites, sent to our clients as momentos of their events, and are extremely valuable for our marketing efforts. To top it off, Flip cameras are affordable and require little to no training! To read about or purchase your own Flip Camera, check this out!
