President's Letter

matt presI am usually the last person to talk about things when they are going well. I believe there is a "karmic god" and you end up jinxing yourself when you start basking in your own good fortune. This one time I am willing to make an exception (don't make me regret it) and talk about some wonderful events we been part of.
We are finding out more and more that tough times demand teamwork, and The Event Team, along with all our partners and friends, closed out a tough year with a great group effort.  Our vendors came together to help us throw our biggest holiday party yet, our hotel partners came together to help us paint classrooms at San Diego's Monarch School for at-risk youth, and we teamed up with our sister USA Hosts office in New Orleans to create two HUGE philanthropic events.  Read below for all the great details!
2009 was not a great year by any standards but if The Event Team is a bellwether for our industry, then we are turning the corner. Already in 2010 we have guaranteed a profitable first quarter. The phones are ringing and we are pumping out more proposals than I have seen in many years.  Our team is healthy and happy (I am very happy), and we feel we've made it through the worst of it and come out alive!  I hope it is the same for everyone!!!
Happy New Year and Keep your fingers crossed!

Holiday Hooplah at Phil's BBQ
The Event Team hosts its biggest holiday party yet!

We came into the holiday season knowing everyone was tightening their belts and pinching pennies.  We were no exception, and executed our holiday routine a little differently.  We sent out a "green" Holiday E-greeting rather than mailing cards, and we also held a our annual company retreat at Matt's house rather than doing an overnight trip.  We even thought about cancelling our Holiday Party, but decided that it was important to show our appreciation to all our wonderful staff, vendors, hotel partners and other FOTETs (Friends of The Event Team).  Our motto in planning the event was "we are in this together", and so many of our partners were gracious enough to contribute their services.  Together we created an awesome event that turned out to be our most successful and highest-Phil'sattended Holiday Party ever!  Thanks to all of you who shared your evening with us!

Special thanks to Phil's BBQ, Classic Party Rentals, Fallbrook Winery, Kona, Ben & Jerry's, Jewell Entertainment, San Diego Dessert, and Toys for Tots for making our Holiday Party one to remember!
The Event Team Gives Back
Monarch School Beautification

On Saturday November 7, 2009, The Event Team joined forces with several of our vendors and hotel partners for a day of outreach at the San Diego Monarch School.  This school is dedicated to providing homelss and at-risk children with an accredited education while caring for their basic needs.  We provided assistance for some much-needed projects around the facility, including painting classrooms, desks & exterior walls, planting an herb garden, and cleaning & decorating inside the main office.   This was a terrific opportunity to give back to the community in a positive way, and Monarch School was thrilled with the results! Taking the Show on the Road
The Event Team Travels to New Orleans

Over the last year, The Event Team has been working hard to let our clients and hotel partners know that when it comes to philanthropic events, we are on the cutting edge and can provide guests with a meaningul experience that benefits the community.  This month, our partners at the USA Hosts New Orleans office tapped into our expertise and asked for our assistance with two huge philanthropic teambuilding programs.  So we hopped on a plane and did what we do best!  Spearheaded by Peter Green, these two projects came together beautifully, and as an end result, our clients built and donated 197 bookcases, roughly 3000 books, 160 desks, 160 benches, and 8 murals to various schools in Louisiana.
