Fourth Quarter 2009
Letter from the President
USA Hosts Logo
The final three months of the year are a great time in Southern California.  People pick on SoCal by saying we don't get all the seasons.  Well, we have picked the best season and we stick with it! If we get bored we can drive for less than an hour and see leaves changing color and snow. (Then leave the cold behind and return to our warm houses!)
This has been an interesting year for our industry.  We all end up feeling sorry for ourselves but in reality we still have it pretty good.  We live in a great country, are able to put food on our plates and we still have time to have some fun!  Please use the rest of the year to think about giving back to the community.  Corporate Social Responsibility is the business buzz phrase but it all starts with individual effort.  Volunteer your time or give money to your favorite charity because they really need it this year.  After all the government cut-backs it is up to us to step forward and take the lead.  Not to mention all the good Karma you will receive...and you can't have too much good Karma!

Happy Holidays,
Matt
PS: My friend Carole Barbee created and wrote a new show called Three Rivers that airs Sundays on CBS...watch it! (It really is good!)
The Event Team Sets Sail!
This year, The Event Team decided it was time to get to know all of our friends in the hotel industry a little better, so we invited them to soak up the last days of summer with us! In August, we hosted a sailing trip aboard the Jada.  That event was so successful, we decided to set sail once again in September aboard yacht America.  We truly value the growing relationship with our hotel partners, and look forward to spending more time with them out of the office, enjoying all the unique and wonderful experiences that make Southern California such a great place to visit! (Click above links for slideshows of each outing!)

Spooky SoCal Halloween Happenings
It seems like every year at this time, stores scramble to put up their Winter Wonderland displays, barely recognizing that the month of October has quite a fun holiday of its own to celebrate.  So we decided to highlight some of the coolest, creepiest Halloween events happening all over SoCal!
SeaWorld's "Spooktacular" (SD): Trick-or-treat for ghoulish goodies, meet amazing sea creatures, catch silly and spooky shows and more!  Kids can come in costume or as they are.  Every weekend in October from 1-6pm.
Legoland's "Brick-or-Treat Party Nights" (San Diego): It's frightfully fun with contests & prizes.  Boo-gie to live music, collect candy, snacks & surprises along the famous Brick-or-Treat Trail and treat your family to a night of fun. October 3, 10, 17, 24 & 31 from 5-9pm.
Knott's "Scary" Farm Haunt (Orange County): Not for the weak at heart, this event is an extreme take on all of the senses.  The mazes and attractions leave no room to run. Visiting the Haunt is like participating in a first-rate horror film.  This is the most fun you will have being scared!  September 24-October 31, 7pm-1am, 2am on Fri./Sat. No costumes. Not recommended for children under 13.
CA Adventure's "Mickey's Trick-or-Treat Party" (Anaheim): Dress up and trick-or-treat in the ultimate Disney neighborhood! Treat yourselves to a night of fun with friendly, costumed Disney Characters and such delights ans trick-or-treat stations featuring Ghiradelli chocolate, live music, entertainment and more.  October 2, 8-9, 15-16, 21-23 & 28-30.  Tues./Wed./Thurs. 6:30-10:30pm.  Fri./Sat. 7:30-11:30pm.
haunted mansionDisneyland's "Halloween Time" (Anaheim): This year's theme is "Chillin' with the Villains."  Along with all the favorite Disney characters, the streets of Disneyland will be overrun with classic villains.  Several rides sport a new, spooky decor and some even feature a modified experience just for the occasion.  Attractions likely to bring in the crowds are Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy and the Haunted Mansion Holiday, hosted by Jack Skillington and the other mischief-makers of Halloweentown. September 25-November 1.
Six Flags Magic Mountain's "Fright Fest" (Los Angeles): Fright Fest offers 13 days of terrifying haunted mazes, roaming zombies,  the scariest clowns on the planet and new shows...leaving no tombstone unturned to bring the ultimate sensory overload for every range of fear.  For the little monsters, a Trick or Treat Trail, Scaryoke and Costume Contest in Bugs Bunny World round out the activities. October 3-4, 9-11, 16-18, 23-25 and 30-31.

Thumbs Up
"Romy, thanks to The Event Team for helping with our LA tour for visiting delegates in conjunction with our International Forging Congress last week.  Suzanne Siney was our tour director, guide and local ambassador.  She is personable, interesting, and offered help and information to our group in exactly the way and manner we had hoped for...a real plus for our team...great job by her.  The buses showed up as required, the drivers were courteous and helpful, and the lunch at Christine's was a hit!  Thanks to you and Sally Davis for the planning and assistance to make our event successful."

 3rd Quarter 2009 Employee:
tammy gamboa
Tammy Gamboa Tammy has been with The Event Team since the end of 2008, but in that short amount of time, she has proven herself as a great asset to our staff roster.  Tammy's bubbly personality is infectious and she can turn any task we ask of her into something fun.  Not one to sit  still for long, Tammy will find things to do during her shift that help our clients to stay organized and look good in front of their peers.  Just one month after having her second daughter, Tammy was eager to jump back into things and helped with our largest program of the year - Buchanan Street Partners charity event.  As a CMP, Tammy's knowledge and understanding of the Meeting Planning industry has also helped her connect with clients and anticipate their needs before they even ask for help.

3rd Quarter
 2009 Vendor:
nrg
NRG is a high energy dance band based in San Diego, but without the rock star attitude.  NRG's lead Andy is wonderful to work with and very accommodating to the needs and special requests of clients.  Many groups have riders and rules that they won't bend, but dealing with Andy and his band mates is always a pleasurable experience.  Andy likes to make sure that all parties involved are happy, because that makes for a better event.  NRG is able to adapt their set to the demographic of the group quickly and without missing a beat. When NRG is the band for an event, it is guaranteed that fun will be had by all!
