TET Gazette

Second Quarter 2009
Letter from the President
USA Hosts Logo
Welcome to the latest edition of the TET Gazette. I am not going to be the one today who complains about the recession and its impact on the Travel Industry. I do think we have been falsely maligned and our industry has been equated with CEO's taking lavish bonuses. The Meetings Industry is an important part of the business community and if you would like to help I urge you to go to http://keepamericameeting.org/ and sign the petition. I also urge you to help defend our industry and when you hear the conversation about groups wasting their money on extravagant meetings please let them know that we employee over 1,000,000 people and "Business travel and events are a smart and cost-effective way to retain and develop employee talent, generate ideas and share knowledge that drives future business growth." (Feel free to put it into your own words).

The Event Team's philosophy this year is to be healthy. Even if the country isn't healthy we are trying to make sure all of our employees stay fit. We are all eating better, we all ran in a 5K race a few weeks ago (see the article) and we gave away a Wii Fit to a happy hotel sales person who entered our lead generating contest.

This issue also showcases new venues and as always highlights a few of our vendors and staff that consistently make us look good.  We are not in this alone and we couldn't be as successful without the help of others.

Thanks for reading,

Matt

The Event Team is Working on their Fitness!

Last issue you may have noticed that we were on our way to becoming a much more "Green" company.  This issue, we'd like to point out that we're not only doing our part to take care of the planet, but we're also focusing on taking care of ourselves!

On Saturday February 21st, The Event Team put on their team uniforms and headed out to Mission Bay for SDMPI's 5K Run/Walk.  The event benefitted the Monarch School of San Diego, one of only two schools nationwide for homeless and at-risk children.  The team's star athlete was Romy Segall, who placed 50th out of about 200 particpants with a time of 25:05.  Matt Robbins was not far behind her, placing 58th with a time of 27:12.  Everyone involved had a great time, and we can't wait for next year's race! Keeping with the fitness theme, our Outside Sales team has been working with hoteliers to generate leads, and as an incentive to them, offered to enter their names in a drawing for a brand New Wii Console and Wii Fit Game.  The drawing was held on Friday March 6th.  Want to find out who the proud new owner is? "Our sincerest appreciation to you for a fantastic job with organizing our 25th Anniversary party.  You've gone above and beyond.  Again and again we received praise from our attendees that it was by far the best party they have gone to in years.  This was all made possible with your help."

Employee/Vendor of the Quarter
Congratulations to the latest recipients!

1st Quarter 2009 Employee:
mark jacobson
Mark Jacobson has been with The Event Team for just one year, but in that short time, he has proven himself as a knowledgeable and professional member of our staff.  Mark is always on time for events, reliable, friendly to staff and clients, and goes above and beyond duty to make sure our clients are satisfied!

1st Quarter 2009 Vendor:
fleetwood
Fleetwood Limo has been our partner in the Los Angeles area for many years.  The staff is always friendly, helpful and quick to turn around our requests for reservations.  On a recent program for Avon, they went above and beyond transporting a group to a home in the Hollywood hills. They took it upon themselves to create directional signage at crucial points of the transfer so that the drivers would not get lost and delay the guests.  It is always a pleasure to partner with Fleetwood Limo on our LA programs!
