bamboo Greetings!

Escape the doldrums of winter and welcome the new year with a restful and revitalizing yoga vacation, hosted by teachers Nancy Causey and Sarah Getz!  Mar de Jade is a gorgeous retreat center located on a beautiful half-moon sand beach in the quiet fishing village of Chacala, just north of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

We'll rise in the mornings to an optional meditation session, then enjoy a dynamic and energizing flow class in Mar de Jade's spacious yoga room, overlooking the ocean. There will be plenty of time during the day for swimming, bird watching, spa services, horseback riding, whale watching, trips to local crafts markets - or just relaxing by the pool or on the beach. Mar de Jade is surrounded by acres of unspoiled jungle and mango groves, perfect for hiking. Fresh fruit, produce and local fish are a part of the three delicious home-cooked meals offered daily. We'll regroup in the afternoon to enjoy a more gentle class, incorporating restorative yoga, breathing, and deep relaxation.

Mar de Jade's attentive, friendly staff and understated elegance create a perfect atmosphere for our retreat.

This retreat is open to all levels of Yoga practitioners, including beginners, and there will be plenty of options and alternatives available for more advanced students.

This retreat was overwhelmingly successful last year - sign up soon!

how do I get there?
airline and travel information:

boats
Mar de Jade is located in the town of Chacala, Mexico which is about 90 minutes north of Puerta Vallarta.

It is best to fly into Puerta Vallarta (PVR). Try to arrive between 12:00 and 4:00 on Saturday, the 24th. Most non-stop flights from the east coast arrive during this time.

From Newark: Continental Airlines has 2 non-stop flights on Saturdays
From JFK: Delta Air Lines has 1 non-stop flight on Saturdays

There are many choices for 1 stop, but of course it takes longer.

Once you have arranged your flights, notify Mar de Jade. They will arrange for a van to pick you up - $20 per person. Since everyone arrives around the same time, it is usually a full van.

return flights:

The non stop flights back east usually leave between 1:00 and 2:30. There is plenty of time Saturday morning, the last day, to have a morning practice, breakfast, and get to the airport 2 hours before your flight.
what do I bring with me?
a suggestion list:

room

Mar de Jade is wonderfully casual.

For class you will, of course, need your yoga clothes.

There is laundry service available (I used it last year with no problem, but remember this is a remote village - so nothing precious).

Last year the first few days were cool. A jacket, sweater, sweatshirt, or shawl is a MUST.

Then it was hot, so sleeveless tops, loose fitting clothes, and a hat are in order.

Bathing suit, walking shoes or sandals, flip flops for easy on and off at the yoga room.

There are plenty of mats, but if you prefer your own - bring it.

If you have an eye pillow for final relaxation - bring it.

Everything is fairly well lighted, but a small flashlight is always handy.

Sunglasses, suntan lotion, normal beach supplies...

There is wireless internet and a comfortable den in which to spend as much time as you need on your computer, so you can bring your laptop or use the one provided by Mar de Jade.

what else is there to do?
fun activities that will inspire you:

tree
besides yoga and meditation, there are lots of things to do.

Mar de Jade can arrange excursions including:

- kayaking
- hiking to secluded beaches (several people did this)
- boating & fishing trips
- snorkeling
- whale watching (the whales were active last year)
- horseback riding (Sarah and Jo were brave souls last year)
- bird & wildlife tours

- on Thursdays there is a traditional Mexican market in one of the nearby towns. We all went last year and had a great time - good buys on Mexican crafts, good food, great outing.

- in addition, Mar de Jade has a great spa, on premises, for massage and various treatments.
- the ocean is great for body surfing.
- the pool area has both sun and shade for relaxing and reading - lots of this took place last year as well.

Nancy Causey, RYT

Nancy Causey, RYT 200, has taught yoga for over 10 years, and co-founded the Half Moon Yoga Barn 7 years ago. She began her practice of yoga 19 years ago with Marsha Albert in Woodstock, New York, as an escape from her high-pressure career in the clothing industry.

"You're going to teach some day," Marsha predicted.

Nancy counts Marsha among her greatest influences that include Cheri Clampett, Sam Dworkis, Tias Little and Patty Townsend. It was because of Cheri that Nancy undertook her first teacher training at White Lotus in Santa Barbara, California, the home of "Flow Yoga," a vinyasa style of practice.

Nancy has completed Therapeutic Yoga training with Cheri Clampett and Arturo Peal and received 200 and 500 hour certification in Embodyoga™ with Patty Townsend of Yoga Center Amherst.

"The study of yoga changed my life," says Nancy. "I can't imagine being without it."
