Q&A

How do I heat emboss with out getting extra marks and acheive a clear image?

First of all, you will always get the best results if you use high quality cardstock, inks, and embossing powders.

A good first step is to use an Embossing Buddy - an anti-static bag to eliminate the static that may be on your cardstock.  Now the fine particles of embossing powder won't cling to static and land where you don't want it to.

Next, make sure your ink pad, something like a Versamark, is good and juicy.  Versamark tends to dry out relatively quickly; it's a good idea to get a refill when you buy your pad.

Stamp down and straight up; avoid rocking back and forth, which tends to add extra ink to your project in strange places.

Next sprinkle your embossing powder over the stamped image and tap off the excess.  Use a good quality, relatively fine powder here.  Cheap chunky stuff will produce an unpolished result.

Heat your project with an Embossing Tool, but don't stop heating the second it melts.  Give it a moment longer,  and you'll see the powder go from slightly bubbly to glass-smooth.

Now you're done.

I wish Flippy Album

Dear Stampers,

This is by far my most favourite time of year!  Yes, it's crazy, crazy busy, but it's also so fun to get together with so many of you and have a  good play and a laugh.  It's taken me a few years to get used to the idea of Christmas coming during Summer, but now I've decided that it's awfully darn convenient to combine the holiday months with the holiday time!

Last weekend my team and I held our first official Christmas event in Hamilton, and we had a fantastic day.  The weather was fabulous and the day went off without a hitch.  Join us for a similar event in Auckland, Tauranga, Whangarei, or Nelson!  (See calendar below).

November is the last month for the Spring Mini Catalogue, which means there's only a few weeks left to get anything on your wish list from there.  Heads up: the Scallop Oval Punch is NOT in the next mini, so grab it while you can!

November is also the last month for my current Challenge Team.  They have all done a fantastic job!!  If you would like to take part in the next 6 month team, please email me your interest by November 12th.

  . . . .Adding visual texture

Click on the photo for the full post

Texture.  It's one of those key elements that really makes a project sing.

I would define texture as a contrast - a contrast in colour, tactile surface, depth, shape, and even mood.

And there is so much so-called "visual" texture you can add without adding a great deal of bulk or weight to your projects.  Let's go over the snippet of my latest scrapbook page above.  Even though the full layout is relatively uncluttered, there is lots of texture going on.

First, I started with our textured 12x12, giving a very subtle, but interesting canvas.  Layers of scraps of the Sweeet Always papers breaks up the patterns quite a bit, creating lots of visual layers, even if in reality, it was just a handful of bits of patterned paper.

The glittered letters (tutorial) give a bit of roughness, in contrast to the smooth papers and variation in both colour and shading, in contrast to the white backgound.  The neutral background gives us maximum contrast to the brighter colours, creating another layer of texture.

The faux stitching, done with a white gel pen, adds interest and gives the impression of a bumpy piece of thread.  Of course the buttons offer a real "bumpiness", and their shiny, smooth surface also offers a difference to the visual chunkiness of the glitter and the texture on the white card.

Further on in the layout, I've also incorporated ribbon, punched shapes, layered images, and a tag put up on dimensionals.

Your eye will often tell you when a project just lacks something.  That "something" may well be a bit of texture.

Order the Latte Buttons and you're on your way to earning a FREE punch!
With love and best wishes,
Jacque
