Great Ways to Use the Stampin' Pastels

by Anne Hayward

Bring out the artist in you with our Stampin' Pastels.
You'll be amazed at how easy you can achieve a beautiful,
soft look.

Coloring using Stampin' Pastels
This is a very simple way to use the Stampin' Pastels. Color in a line image, using a blender pen to shade and blend the colors.  This is an easy way to get all the colours!

Poppin' Pastels
This is one of my all time favorite techniques. Stamp your image using Versamark. Pick up the pastel colors using a pastel applicator or  sponge daubers and rub or dab onto your stamped image. The pastel will stick to the Versamark. Add different colors as desired.

Pullin' Pastels
This is another great technique for using the Stampin' Pastels. With an applicator, brush pastels over dark colored card stock. Ink image with Versamark ink. Stamp on card stock to pull off the pastels.

Chalk Board Technique

Stamp your image using white craft ink. While the ink is still wet, dab on your pastel colors. Dabbing, rather than rubbing works best for this technique.

-Exclusive Stampin' Up! colors (48 plus 3 neutral colors-white, black, gray)

Q&A

My Stamp Room

Do I need to emboss my black outline before I colour my images?

Great question!  I get asked this fairly often.

No, you do not.

Stampin' Up! has three colours of ink that are waterproof, Basic Black, Basic Grey, and Basic Brown.

Traditionally, when your images are stamped in a water-based ink, when you colour them with any type of water, like with a watercolour brush, the ink will smear.  Any of the "basic" inks, although they are water-based, they are also waterproof and will not smear under normal colouring conditions.

What a time saver that is!
And a bonus for those who have read this far:
All Classic Dye inks are going up in price in April to 13.95 (from 11.75).  Heads up: order the ones you'd like in March!

Submit your question to be answered in next month's newsletter!
A Funny Extra:

Sofie (age 6) made popsicles with fruit juice and didn't want her sisters to eat them.

So she made up a sign for the frig:

 Sofie's territory
And speaking of bargains:

Did you know that the Designer Series Paper at $13.95 was a misprint?  Yes, it was meant to be much more, but SU decided to honour the price rather than reprint the catalogue.  That works out to $1.16 per double sided 12x12 paper!!!
The Designer Series Papers will be 22.95 for a pack of 12 come April - still a fair market price, but I am suggesting my customers take advantage of the lower price THIS month!!

Dear Stampin' Up fans!

stampin up family photo all in the familyIt was so lovely to meet many of you this past month during SaleABration!  I very much enjoy spending time with like-minded people - definately one of the perks of my job!

Things never seem to slow down, though, as just this morning was the release of the retiring stamp sets and accessories, complete with surpise discounts on many items - up to 50% off!!  My experience last year was that many items sold out very quickly, so I am advising my customers to order early in the month.

Next Month brings us a new Idea Book and Catalogue, for which I am counting down the days!  Pre-order yours now to ensure the earliest possible delivery.  Last year I offered a coupon book with the catalogues, and I will do that again this year for the first few months of the Stampin' Up! year.

Many of you have asked me about credit cards.  I do not know when SU will get the demonstrators set up with credit card capabilities, so I have taken the initiave and opened a paypal account for you to use.  So you now have the option of paying via cash, cheque, internet banking, or with your credit card.  I can send you paypal invoices and I will have a paypal button on my site in the near future.  Payments

Many thanks to all who participated in the February Challenge!  That was great!  Please check the challenge page for this month's challenge (a colour one this time!).  I hate to just delete all the entries, so I will copy and past the February entries and put them on a separate, linked page for blog guests to continue to enjoy for another month.

Please continue reading for more promotions and tips!

Textured Card & a few other Bargains

Textured card has long been a favourite of scrapbookers and cardmakers alike.  It's a beautiful visual texture that doesn't detract from your main focal point.  But how do Textured Paper and stamping go together?

I've been playing around with this a bit the last few months.  As you can see in the above sample, yes, you can stamp directly onto textured card and acheive a reasonable image.  See another sample here.  As one would expect, you won't get as clear and crisp an image as with Whisper White or any other very smooth, finished card, but rather a more uneven image.  And sometimes that's cool!

I have also found rub-ons to be extremely effective on textured card.  See another sample here.  I really love the rub-ons.  Use the Adhesive Remover to rub out any mistakes, too.

Stampin' Up! offers textured card in 12x12 size and in all 60 colours.  At $1.08 per sheet, it's a bargain!
