 the Holidays?

Stamp out the summertime blues!  Here are some fun ideas to do with your children during the holiday break:
(these also make fun birthday party activities)

1. Alphabet sets:  help your kids' reading, spelling, and writing skills stay sharp all summer - it's as easy as ABC!  Use any SU! alphabet set to let them spell words or create sentences.  They could stamp out messages to dad, friends, or relatives.

2. Stamp out several sets of a SU! alphabet on magnetic sheets, cut apart, and store in a metal tin.   They can then spell by sticking the letters to the tin.  This makes a great activity while driving in the car.  Use the numbers sets in the same way to practice math skills.

3. Tic-Tac-Toe!  Play just like you would with an X and an O but let each player use an image stamp instead.  This game travels well, too, if you use mini stamps and spots.  (See pages 130-131 for spots).

4. Stamp-O:  Your kids can help you make, then play, this SU! version of Bingo!  Choose one or more stamp sets and stamp images in different colours on cards.  Stamps another set of matching images to draw from.

5. Late in the summer, pull our your age-appropriate sets and let your child make a new bookmark for school.  They may want to make one for teacher, too.

6.  Use a favourite set to decorate plain paper book covers!

7. Using any of the animal stamps or the All in the Family set, stamp on white cardstock, colour, and cut out.  Then attach them to popsicle sticks and have a puppet show!

8. Create a chore chart with your children using stamps for particular jobs and/or a stamp to check off when a job is completed.

9.  Let your children tell you a story using the stamps you have.  Or stamp images in a notebook, let them colour in and write text to coordinate.  See how creative they can be!

Q&A
stampin up scallop punch

How do I use the new Scallop Border Punch?

Many ladies have asked me this so far!  I know I've shown hundreds of you how to make a scallop using either the corner rounder or the slit punch, giving both of those punches tremendos value.  However, the new scallop border punch makes for a quick embellishment and also allows you to create scalloped squares and rectangles to any size.

Lining it up is easy, thanks to the preprinted image on either side of the punch.  Basically, punch your cardstock once.  Then slide the card either right or left until the punched out scallops match up exactly with the printed scallops on the punch.  (They were clever and put these images on both the right and left side so you can go either way.) Punch again, and it will line up perfectly.

As an added bonus, you'll end up with a little pile of off-cuts that are perfect for wearing around as fangs.

stampin up oriental blooms

Welcome to my new baby!

I know not everyone enjoys preserving their memories with paper and ink ( and ribbon and punches and brads and flowers and rub-ons), but I have fallen in love!

Each month I will feature a page I have done and share a new product or technique.  Above is a page I did two days after I had surgery and it provided such a pleasant afternoon for a lady in a great deal of pain!  Click on the image to be taken to the full article and bigger pictures.

I used a new stamp set called Oriental Blooms, one that I find to be quite versatile and fun.  I used the markers to achieve the multi-coloured image.  The border around the Taken with Teal panel is created with the new Scallop Border Punch, a real must-have for all my customers!  Although I still think the slit punch and corner rounder are great for scallops as they produce a differenct-sized result, the border punch is a real time-saver.

The Chocolate Chip ribbon here is just delicious!  Now, if you know me very well or have been to my house, you know that I stockpile in a HUGE way!  No, I never buy just one, I have to have ALL of it.  So I was very dismayed to find that I had about 40 cm of this ribbon in my house and no more.  I always keep an extra roll of my favourites!  Nothing else would do, so I achieved this page anyway by cutting the ribbon into five pieces.  There is the biggest gap possible behind both pictures.  I hope this little tip will help you get the most mileage out of your ribbon, too!

The colours here are Tempting Turquoise and his grandfather, Taken with Teal, Pumpkin Pie, Chocolate Chip, and Old Olive.
