The prayer of St. Francis

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace,
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy;

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Prayer of Commitment

by Marian Wright Edelman

God did not call us to succeed,

God called us to serve.

God did not call us to win,

God called us to work.

God did not call us to live long,

God called us to live for God.

God did not call us to be happy,

God called us to be hopeful.

God did not call us to fame,

God called us to faith.

God did not call us to seek power,

God called us to seek peace.

God did not call us to loot the earth and each other,

God called us to love our earth and each other. Amen.

bishop search

Applications will be accepted soon

The Committee for Nominations for the 10th Bishop of Atlanta will accept applications from the end of August through 5 p.m.
Oct. 30. Qualified individuals are encouraged to complete their Office of Transition Ministries (OTM) profile. If you know someone you think ought to be considered, encourage him or her to complete the OTM profile. Go to the Episcopal Diocese of Atlanta website for more information.

A Prayer for the Diocese of Atlanta

O God, you lead your Church into all truth: Give the guiding presence of your Holy Spirit to those who have dedicated themselves to your service in our search for the 10th Bishop of the Diocese of Atlanta.

May our prayers and discernment be in accord with the mission you have given us to restore all people to unity with God and each other in Christ.

May our next bishop be a person of prayer who is present to us as pastor and teacher while prophetically calling us to the ministry of justice, peace, and love; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
