Helping Rebuild Communities

Rebuilding Together LogoDozens of volunteers donated hours of manpower to give a Newport property a major facelift through the local Rebuilding Together program.

Before a rebuilding project can begin, demolition of the old and worn-out must occur. Jim Paradise and his crew helped demo the old porch, removDemolition Pileed all the demolition debris, and delivered it to the dump in several of their trucks. They even paid a major portion of the dump fees.

Rebuilding Together is the nation's leading nonprofit working to preserve affordable homeownership and revitalize communities.

Water, Water, Everywhere

Ceiling Coming Down

Ceiling collapse due to

flooding above

After being away for two months, a local family came home to find three feet of water in their basement and ceilings down in three rooms. In addition, there was mold everywhere, even in-between the ceiling joists.

The damage was caused when a fitting failed on a small hose that supplied water to the second floor toilet.

We had to demo everything on the first floor and finished basement in order to gain access and dry out the wet mold. We filled six 20-yard dumpsters with refuse from their wood floors, ceilings, walls, and kitchen cupboards.

in basement.

We then cleaned all surfaces with a pressure washer before applying an anti-microbial agent and drying out the entire house with commercial grade drying equipment.

Once the work was complete, the homeowners said that our crew was the best they had ever worked with.

Ask Jim

Q: What level of humidity is healthful for my family?

A: To prevent mold, mildew and bacteria growth in basements, and dust mites throughout the rest of your home, relative humidity levels in the Winter should range from 25 to 35% and in the Summer and Fall, less than 50%, as recommended by the EPA, American Lung Association and the American Medical Association.

The simplest and most practical method of managing relative humidity and providing a healthy and comfortable environment is a ventilating dehumidifier.
