LATE SUMMER 2009

Eradicate Moisture Problems Immediately

If your home is exposed to unusual dampness for any reason, do not delay having the problem fixed or you could end up with an expensive mess.

Floor MoldParadise was recently called in to repair water damage nearly two weeks after the leak occurred. The mold had already grown from the floors, up the walls, and onto the ceiling of the basement. To prevent mold spores from contaminating living areas, our technicians first installed a physical barrier and set up a negative air machine to vent the house. We then reduced the humidity level with heavy duty equipment, eradicated the mold, and applied an anti-microbial to all surfaces.

The homeowner's son was so pleased that he called to thank us for doing such a nice job.

Water Main Break Floods Home

AtticMoldAfterKathleen Langley ran to the door when she heard the police officer knocking on it before 5 o'clock in the morning. "The water was literally pouring in downstairs," Kathleen said. Unfortunately, their downstairs contains her family's living room, kitchen, den, and bathroom - all were completely flooded.

Paradise technicians immediately moved all the furniture out, wrapped and boxed all breakables, and placed everything in a storage unit. They then extracted the water, removed the destroyed laminated floor, and hauled away all the debris. Air movers and dehumidifiers were installed and mold preventative was applied to all surfaces. After the contractors finished the reconstruction, Paradise cleaned up all the remaining rubble and moved the furniture and contents back into the house.

Q&A
What can I do to prevent mold?

Here are a few tips:

1) When water leaks or spills occur indoors, act quickly. If damp materials are dried 24 to 48 hours after a leak occurs, mold will not grow in most cases.

2) Keep indoor humidity low, preferably below 60% by using a dehumidifier or air conditioner.

3) Vent bathrooms and clothes dryers, and stoves to the outside and run vents while bathing, cooking and running the dishwasher.

4) Regularly check faucets, pipes, and ductwork for leaks.
When first turning on the air conditioner have the windows open for several minutes to allow mold spores to disperse.

5) If you see condensation on windows, walls, or pipes, act quickly to dry the wet surface and reduce the moisture source. Condensation can be a sign of high humidity.

6) Clean and repair roof gutters regularly.
