Greetings!
OMG! It's two weeks till Summer break! Where did the year go?

I love my boys, and I'm ready for that extra quality time with them. You know, that quality time, full of these wonderful terms:
  • Go outside and play!
  • I can't take you to the movie right now I'm working!
  • If you're bored, clean your room!
  • Will you guys be quiet, I'm on the phone.
Have a great start of the Summer folks!

Follow-Me Fatigue

A small piece of advice, set your expectations correctly with regards to people following your business or business activities through online social media. Let me explain.

See this cartoon? How many of you does this represent?

Now put yourselves in the shoes of your potential followers. Do you think they are feeling any differently than you are?

As all of us business owners are getting more and more familiar with the different online social media tools, we tend to get excited in our new found knowledge.  We then believe that everyone will want to follow everything about our business or the events we're sponsoring, or the speakers we're going to see, etc, etc.

Unfortunately, most of us are already at information overload state just trying to run our own businesses. We are fatigued. Trying to follow everyone's online activities tends to be a lower priority. It's called follow-me fatigue.

So, be very careful in how you market online. The quickest way to get people to ignore your efforts is to constantly throw tons and tons of stuff at them on a daily basis just because it's so inexpensive to do so.

Please space out your information. Make the content relevant and with a very low sales pitch approach. Finally, understand and be ok with the fact that many of us will not have time to get to it all, and by you sending it more often, really does not help your efforts in getting us to pay attention to you.
Why Google Loves Blogs
Content is king! Change is Queen! Google loves companies that put lots of content on the Internet and change it often.

Google finds the technology/database/language that blogs are based on, very easy to understand and index.

So you what you have is a technology tool that is easy to index, it's content rich and change focused.

Google looks at all the above and just smiles at you, and says well done! Here's your reward... Higher listings on their search result pages.

Featured Web Site Of The Month - The Shawnee Chamber of Commerce
The Shawnee Chamber Website is brand new and is a feature rich site. At the bottom of the Web site are two follow-me links for Linked-In and Twitter. What makes the Chamber unique, is that they recently sent out a survey asking "How would you like us to communicate with you?" Not only do they take advantage of every communication tool available, they more importantly, offer us the choice of our preferred method of hearing from them. Well done!!
