A small piece of advice, set your expectations correctly with regards to people following your business or business activities through online social media. Let me explain.
See this cartoon? How many of you does this represent?
Now put yourselves in the shoes of your potential followers. Do you think they are feeling any differently than you are?
As all of us business owners are getting more and more familiar with the different online social media tools, we tend to get excited in our new found knowledge. We then believe that everyone will want to follow everything about our business or the events we're sponsoring, or the speakers we're going to see, etc, etc.
Unfortunately, most of us are already at information overload state just trying to run our own businesses. We are fatigued. Trying to follow everyone's online activities tends to be a lower priority. It's called follow-me fatigue.
So, be very careful in how you market online. The quickest way to get people to ignore your efforts is to constantly throw tons and tons of stuff at them on a daily basis just because it's so inexpensive to do so.
Please space out your information. Make the content relevant and with a very low sales pitch approach. Finally, understand and be ok with the fact that many of us will not have time to get to it all, and by you sending it more often, really does not help your efforts in getting us to pay attention to you. |
