Maybe you don't use Twitter!. Maybe you do! Perfectly fine either way. But the situation is this. There are a lot of people out there who are using it. And, they're out there happily tweeting about everything imaginable. Maybe even about you or your company.
Would it not be a good thing as business owner of a company to pay attention to what people are saying about your company, and maybe about you at a personal level?
There's a really simple way for you to do this.
This is an amazing free real-time search tool of all the Tweets going on out there. Within two minutes of me tweeting about a term I made up ("zimarolian schematics"), I was able to, using this search tool, see that tweet. Real-time results!!
Just a quick searching tip. If you're going to use this tool and want to search a phrase "Westar Energy" be sure to put quotes around the phrase. That will make sure to only return results with those exact two words together.
- - Here's a positive business scenario of how a company used this real-time Twitter search feature to their benefit - -
A good buddy of mine was on his back porch doing the barbeque thing and noticed how Westar Energy had butchered the tree line at the back of his property. So, being the avid Twitter user he is, he tweeted his friends about it. He expressed his sad disappointment at what they had done to his trees. (Hey, that was the G Rated version. You know the tweet was probably a bit more robust in language! LOL! )
Anyway, the very next day a customer service rep from Westar called him to discuss his concerns!
Wow!!! Now that's something no one could have imagined just two years ago. It's obviously someone's job at Westar to search Twitter so many times a day just for this exact purpose. They're watching to see if anyone is out there tweeting about Westar. Yes someone was, and the tweet wasn't favorable. So quick damage control on their part!
Folks I do not use Twitter to send tweets. I don't have the time and I have yet to find any small service based businesses that are using it to increase their bottom line. But there are a lot of people out there tweeting away about "stuff". You can believe me when I say, I will be taking the five minutes, a couple times a week, and searching Twitter from now on.
I want to know if anyone on Twitter is talking about me or my company.
It's a huge confusing social online world out there.
