Those of you who have been reading my recent emails know I'm really big on the concept of don't spend your time or money unless you're tracking what you're doing.
With that said, here's a real quick and easy way to measure how much business you're getting from your Website....
Put a code or coupon on your site's home page for some sort of discount.
You know the deal...."Print out this coupon and get 5% off your next service" Or, "Tell us this code number when you call and get a free 30 minute consultation." You get these things all the time in your postal mail don't you? Why not put something like that on your Website?
The most important thing is though, the only place you can use the coupon or code is on your Web site. If you use it on other advertising you're pretty much back to square one with tracking where your business is coming from.
It seems like almost everyday people are saying to me, I'm going to dump my Yellow Pages ad, or Val-Pack coupons, etc because I get nothing out of them. I want to show up in Google and Yahoo!!!
What people don't seem to realize is that unless you have a specific way to measure visitors to your Web pages, you really can't tell if you're getting any business from there either!
So take a few minutes and come up with some sort of Website only offer, and stick in on the home page of your Web site. It's not going to cause you to get a zillion more hits through Google and Yahoo, but you will be able to know exactly where the work is coming from.
And, if you want to be creative, change up the offers now and then to see which one's generate more traffic.
Good luck and as always feel free to call if you have questions.
