The doors will be open today at Charly's Market!

She says the store will be fully operational. She says the only items they won't have in stock yet are wine and liquor.
Miller says the store has a new slogan: "Service with a smile, and everything you need within a mile!" |
TV Show Hosted by Terry Bradshaw
Features Eau Claire
A television program, hosted by former football star Terry Bradshaw is featuring Eau Claire. The program, called "Today in America," showcases cities across the country by highlighting them as "hidden gems to live, work, and play."
The 5-minute piece will air in several television markets across the country. This week on Tuesday and Wednesday, the Eau Claire piece aired in Madison, Milwaukee, and Minneapolis/St. Paul.
Renovation of the Downtown, quality higher education, great health facilities, and incubating arts activities are also showcased. Dr. Randall Linton of the Mayo Clinic Health System, Author Michael Perry, and former UWEC Chancellor Brian Levin-Stankevich also appear in the video. There are scenes from all around Eau Claire including: UWEC, Carson Park, the International Fall Festival, the Downtown Farmer's Market, historical lumbering photos, CVTC, Downtown shots from atop the RCU building, Downtown construction, inside new apartments, people purchasing EC items at the Local Store, Phoenix Park, the confluence, the Summer Concert Series, the Paul Bunyan Logging Camp, Chaos Waterpark, Chippewa Valley Theatre Guild, Eau Claire Regional Arts Center, Janet Carson Art Gallery, Sacred Heart Hospital, the Mayo Clinic Health System, and the Marshfield Clinic.
We thank Visit Eau Claire, the Mayo Clinic Health System, and UW-Eau Claire for their assistance in this project. DECI has been working with the staff at "Today in America" for the last eight months on the completion of the video.

Work on Graham Ave. to Begin Soon
By Andrew Dowd-Leader Telegram staff
Converting a couple of downtown Eau Claire streets from their current one-way design into two-way traffic is scheduled for August.
The switch will be an "easy conversion," city traffic engineer Ross Spitz said, noting it will require only new lane markings, signs and removing a couple of concrete islands on Eau Claire Street.
"It's essentially marking and signing," Spitz said.
The switch is intended to take about two weeks, sometime between Eau Claire's Summer Fest on Aug. 4 and the Sept. 4 start for UW-Eau Claire's fall semester.
The taller task might be informing motorists of the change after about 40 years of one-way downtown traffic.
The city will use message boards, additional signs and traffic barrels to "make it really, really obvious there's been a change," Spitz said.
Before then, Graham Avenue will undergo repairs, which are planned for June.
"What we've got is the joints are failing," interim City Manager Brian Amundson said.
This summer's repairs are intended to get another eight to 10 years of life out of the pavement before a complete reconstruction is needed, he said.
The road repair will require closing one lane at a time, keeping access open to businesses and off-street parking lots.
The city's lot at Eau Claire Street and Graham Avenue will be converted from metered parking to free two-hour parking during the project, to make up for the loss of on-street parking, Spitz said.
About 30 downtown business leaders and city officials met Tuesday to discuss the impending street projects.
Erin Roesler, co-owner of Tangled Up In Hue on South Barstow Street, said businesses primarily have been worried about delivery truck access after the streets switch from two lanes going in one direction into two-way traffic. While her arts and crafts collective store doesn't get many deliveries, Roesler said, she sees trucks parked outside her window severaltimes a day to stock bars and restaurants on Barstow Street with food and alcohol.
Establishing delivery truck loading areas has been a worry of shopkeepers after the city announced the two-way traffic switch, but a plan to deal with it has not yet been developed by the city. The city plans to meet with delivery services that regularly go downtown, Amundson said, and that will be part of upcoming meetings with businesses prior to the switch.
Meetings of affected downtown businesses will be monthly to give them an opportunity to provide input on projects slated for South Barstow Street and Graham Avenue, Amundson said.
The next meeting is scheduled for June 26 to discuss the two-way traffic plan, concerns with deliveries and details of next year's reconstruction of South Barstow Street. |
