E-Safety Newsletter

OCTOBER 2011

Safety Day 2011- That time is upon us once again.  It's time for you to conduct your required safety day program.  All units are required to conduct a unit safety day for its members.  Wing has a safety day program Power Point presentation (1.0 MB pdf) you may use however it is highly recommended that units produce their own specialized program that reflects on the requirements that the unit faces with their operation.  Your completion of this important program will be documented by the unit entering the information into the Safety section of the e-Services.  Here is some important information. When you fill out the safety form, be sure to label the activity as "Unit Safety Day Meeting". This will take care of the requirement for this year. Units and/or members not completing this directive WILL be suspended from all activities until this is cleared.  And now the change for 2012, the annual Safety Day will now come due in Jan, Feb or March. This means that anytime during those 3 months, all units are required to conduct their annual Safety Day. Just indicate it on the e-Services report. There is not any other time period authorized. The other requirement for the annual ORM training stays the same. You may conduct it at any time in the year, just be sure to indicate "ORM" training on the e-Services safety report.

Annual Safety Survey - This required safety item is required to be completed by Jan 31 of each year.  But on Nov 1, the on-line entry system will be cleared and new inputs will be accepted.  Why not get this requirement completed early and then you will not have me calling you in January to remind you to get it done.    Pa Wing along with NE Region has set the deadline for completion of the Safety Survey as Dec 31. Please print a copy and place in your files.

ABOUT THE WEBINAR:

Did you know that the Boeing Company almost ceased to exist in the 1930s because of a crash and that the company was saved when someone created the first checklist? Learn more about that story and how checklists have evolved into essential tools we can use today.

This live webinar is intended to increase the pilot's awareness of how effective and efficient checklist usage can actually lower the pilot's workload and increase safety. Even the most simple airplane can be flown more safely by incorporating appropriate checklists.

This webinar will explain why checklists should be dynamic documents, always ready to be improved or expanded. It will discuss the creation or revision of checklists for normal operations, abnormal operations, and emergency procedures. It will also show how the process of creating or revising checklists will increase better understanding of the airplane's systems and operation.

This live webinar is fast-paced, lively, and entertaining. But most importantly, it provides information that can increase safety for any pilot.

The webinar will last approximately one hour fifteen minutes. Wings credit will be earned by being logged into the system for most of the event plus the pilot's participation in most of the short answer quizzes called polls. Participation in this webinar, will earn one Basic Knowledge 3 credit for the FAA Wings Pilot Proficiency Program.

The webinar will be offered three times on Oct. 18, 2011, at 3 PM EDT, 8 PM EDT, and at 10 PM EDT. Please convert to your local time zone.
