Cadet Basic Encampment &

Leadership Development Course

FORT INDIANTOWN GAP, PA - PA WING HEADQUARTERS -

This week marks the 2011 Pennsylvania Wing Encampment (ENC) and Leadership Development Course (LDC). Sixty five hard working and dedicated cadet and senior staff members have been working on this year's program since the end of last year's Encampment. Our goal is to make this the best ENC/LDC experience possible for all students. The staff is here to ensure that the students have a safe and fun week.Encampment Image

The LDC cadets arrived at 12pm, yesterday and got right to work learning how to become flight level leaders. They spent time this afternoon on drill and ceremonies and getting settled in their barracks.

Nearly 160 ENC cadets arrived at 1pm. They spent time in the afternoon getting acclimated to the barracks environment, learning how to make their bunks, and learning more about the ENC way of life...

National Character Day

National Character Day

You've heard of wings hosting "aerospace days" and "leadership academies." Why not a similar endeavor showcasing the character development aspect of cadet life?

National Character Day is a new wing-level activity that serves two purposes:
(1)  Motivate cadets to take seriously issues of character and honor, while recommitting themselves to the drug-free ethic;
(2)  Further integrate the DDR program into CAP's overall Cadet Program.

National Weather Service (NWS) SKYWARN Program

Do CAP members participate in SKYWARN?

Yes, CAP members are ideal volunteers for this program. National Weather Service (NWS) encourages anyone with an interest in public service and access to communication, such as HAM radio, to join the SKYWARN® program.  See details below from SKYWARN

The effects of severe weather are felt every year by many Americans. To obtain critical weather information, NOAA's National Weather Service (NWS), part of the U.S. Department of Commerce, established SKYWARN® with partner organizations. SKYWARN® is a volunteer program with nearly 290,000 trained severe weather spotters. These volunteers help keep their local communities safe by providing timely and accurate reports of severe weather to the National Weather Service.

Backgrounder

In its Air Force auxiliary role, CAP performs 90 percent of continental U.S. inland search and rescue missions as tasked by the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center and was credited by the AFRCC with saving 113 lives in fiscal year 2010.

When natural or manmade disasters occur, CAP's citizen volunteers are often the first on the scene, transmitting digital images of the damage within seconds while providing disaster relief and emergency services for victims. In the past decade alone, members have responded to such phenomena as 9/11, Hurricane Katrina, Texas and Oklahoma wildfires, tornadoes in the South and central U.S., flooding in the Dakotas and an earthquake and tsunami in Hawaii, as well as humanitarian missions along the U.S. and Mexican border.

CAP celebrates its 70th anniversary on Dec. 1. It has been conducting humanitarian missions from the early days of World War II and is considered by many as the world standard for aviation-oriented, volunteer emergency organizations.
