Aircraft Ground Handling Video Training Requirement - It's time again to perform this requirement.  All members involved with or touching an aircraft must do this. A major trend has been identified concerning the operation of our aircraft.  This trend is the damaging of our aircraft when on the ground either by taxiing or moving the aircraft on the ground. Hitting other objects has with our aircraft resulted in a very good video professional produced that aids our members the ground handling of our aircraft.  This requirement is required for all members that handle the aircraft in any way.  The video takes 13 minutes to view followed by a short 10 question test.  Successful completion of the test will automatically be indicated on the member's record.  It is recommended that all persons complete this training.  Completion date is 30 Sep 09.  Recurrent training will be required to be completed by 30 Sep of each following year. This video should raise the awareness level of all members that come into any contact with aircraft.

Annual Safety Survey - The Annual Safety is now due.  Pa Wing and Northeast Region have both moved the due dates to Dec 31, 2009.  Every unit completed this National requirement without any problems so the new date should not be a problem.  If you need help, just give me a call. Remember it is entirely on line

Monthly Safety Meeting Reports - All but one unit have completed their Oct Safety Day requirement and have reported it on line via the WMU.  Good job.  Remember the monthly safety meeting and report is a National requirement for each unit.

Safety Courses - The Basic, Senior and Master Safety Courses have now been on line for a couple of months and many of our members (not just safety officers and commanders) have taken the course.  These courses are very informative and do not take a long time to take.  The courses are well written and have been tested for over a year in several wings with excellent results.  After successful completion of the test you will be able to print a certificate and your records will automatically be updated to show the course. Note, if you have Commander or Director in your title or a Safety Officer and assistants you must take both the basic and senior safety courses.  It is recommended that all members take the Basic Course. It is highly recommended that the Master Safety course be taken also.

ORM On-line Courses - The ORM courses now include the Basic, Intermediate and Advanced ORM Course.  These courses cover the ORM theories and also include a test and a certificate.  All members should be taking the Basic Course and Commanders, IC's and any members in a command position including Safety Officers and their assistants should be taking both courses. It is an on-line course and should take less than 30 minutes. It is also highly recommended that the Advanced ORM course be taken soon.

Where do I find these Safety and ORM Course?  Go to
http://www.gocivilairpatrol.com  click on Members, then click on Safety (left side), and then for the Safety Course click on Safety Courses, test is on the bottom of the list.  For the ORM Course, click on the ORM and chose the ORM Course desired.  Test is on the bottom.  For the Aircraft Handling Video, go to the Safety Page (the one with the picture of the National Director) and scroll down to the bottom.  It will be on the right side.

Other Items
Still an issue for some units is that I still need each unit to send me the Name, Rank, CAPID #, Date of assignment and when they completed either the Old Safety Course or the New On-Line Basic Safety officer course of their safety officer.  National requires all unit safety officers complete the On-line Basic and Intermediate safety course within 90 days of appointment or have completed the old safety Course.  A unit safety officer is a requirement for each unit but it does not need to be their only duty assignment.
Please send the information on the Safety Officer to me at
bmetzcap@comcast.net  AND PAWGHQCAP@aol.com.
For those already completing this request, thank you.
