Greetings!

Jesus loves the little children -- all the children of the world. He loves them through you and me!  We wanted to thank you for making it possible to care for so many little ones in Haiti.  From providing a new whole house generator for an Infant Rescue home, to giving protein powder and vitamins to orphans, to offering teddy bears, toys and hugs to the youngest earthquake survivors -- Haiti's children know that Somebody Cares!  I hope the stories below will encourage and inspire you to keep caring for the little ones in your life and around the world!

Thank you for caring,

J Doug Stringer
Teddy Bears for Tots

Haiti Boy with BearWhen Joyce Yeoman heard about the Haiti earthquake, her When Joyce Yeoman heard about the Haiti earthquake, her heart was especially moved for the children.  Knowing they had lost what little they owned--some of them even losing their entire families she wanted to help. So she started a Teddy Bear drive!

Contacting local businesses in her small hometown of Show Low, Arizona, Mrs. Yeoman placed bins in locations across town to collect the stuffed animals from others who shared her burden. Even though her mountain town was relatively small, she soon had 26 boxes with 400 stuffed animals.   The local Young Marines, boys ages 12-18 years helped pack and get them ready to ship to Haiti.

But how could she ensure her precious cargo would safely reach its intended destination? That's where the Somebody Cares network stepped in to help!

Overcoming the Trauma of Great Loss

Family helped by Biblica donated book on dealing with crisis.
Haiti Booklets family

Many Haitians are still traumatized by the earthquake and the destruction and loss it caused.  How do you deal with the loss of everything -- home, possessions, job, familiar sites, comfort and loved ones?

Somebody Cares is helping local pastors overcome their own trauma and in turn reach out to their commnities and congregations.  A recent donation from Biblica (formerly International Bible Society) of a booklet "When Your Whole World Changes" is a big help.

Pastor Carlo, who oversees about 100 churches throughout Haiti as well as several schools, received some of these booklets for his congregations and students.
He says" the children's booklets have really ministered to the school children that have experienced the horrors of the quake. they have helped the children deal with their fears. There are still hundreds of thousands of children still not able to return to schools because of the fears of their parents.  The writers of these booklets have to be commended for the spirit in which the books were written."
Traumatizied school children benefit from the material Somebody Cares provided.

Our Somebody Cares representative in Haiti, Richard Grubb, reports "The adult booklets have been a help for those who have been affected emotionally by the quake as well.  The fear that the Haitian people are living with now is real.  The President of Haiti just recently made an announcement that another earthquake is imminent and could be worse than the one on January 12th.  The booklets have been a blessing to these adults and their families."

One family reported, "the booklets helped us to understand the feelings we are experiencing."

In addition to distributing thousands of these booklets, Somebody Cares plans to provide about 700 pastors with in-depth Crisis Counseling kits donated by David C Cook so they are prepared to reach out to the hurting in their churches and neighborhoods.

Additional funding is needed to see these kits distributed with training to pastors throughout Haiti.  A donation of $50 is suggested to see these books get into the hands of pastor who need them.  Any gift amount will help!  Will you give today?

Thank you for your partnership and prayers!

Your continued support of Somebody Cares will allow us to meet the needs of Haiti and beyond.

Sincerely,
