Greetings!

The situation in Haiti is still heartbreaking.  Hundreds of thousands of people continue to live in tent cities.  The rains have started and health concerns are on the rise. On top of that women, and even children, in the tent cities are being assaulted and raped nightly as they have no way to keep intruders out and security is lacking.

 Meet the Larieux Family

Family 20
Details of how it will work and su
The Larieux and extended family lost their homes in the earthquake. Mr. and Mrs. Lariuex were both school teachers who lost jobs when the quake ruined the school as well. Mr. Larieux also lost his second job as a journalist because the newspaper building was totally destroyed. Now all eleven of the family members (age 60 to age 7) live in a make-shift shelter of tarps, cardboard and other materials.    A Home of Hope will help this family secure their possessions and stay away from the elements as they wait for schools to be rebuilt so they can work and rebuild their lives.

 Meet the Joseph Family

The Joseph's home was destroyed during the earthquake. The 6 family members now live in a tent on their property and can occasionally stay in a neighbor's house. Neither the grandmother or grandfather work and their son lost his job due to the quake.  Life is difficult.  But a Home of Hope will allow them to secure their possessions and keep them safe while they look for work and try to rebuild.

TSC Volunteer Serena cuts boards

Recently a team from Times Square Church in New York City, traveled to Houston to partner with Somebody Cares for the construction of our first Homes of Hope for Haitian families.

Reni, one of the 11 team members from Times Square Church, said he did not know what to expect and was a little fearful of being part of a construction project. But soon, he and the rest of the team "got the hang of it," and in just two days had completed six homes!

"We worked in an abandoned sporting goods store," he explained when giving a testimony about the trip to the church's congregation, "and there were five basic stations: the floor, the left side and the right side, and the front and back." Reni said the experience proved to him that "God can use anyone, no matter how big or how small, how skilled or unskilled."   Read the rest of the story !

Thank you for your partnership and prayers!

Your continued support of Somebody Cares will allow us to meet the needs of Haiti and beyond.

Sincerely,
