Congratulations to the winners of the 2011 Royal Palm Literary Awards competition, who were announced for the first time at the conference's Awards Banquet. Special congratulations to Mary T. Wagner for her Published Book of the Year, Fabulous in Flats: Putting my Best Foot Forward, and to Sunny Serafino for her Unpublished Book of the Year, Finding Amy. THE MAGIC OF THE PEN is the theme for the 11th Annual Florida Writers Conference. It will take place October 19-21, 2012 and once again we'll be in Lake Mary FL.
CELEBRITY WORKSHOP. The day before the conference, the Florida Writers Foundation will offer a full-day workshop with thriller writer R.J. Ellory. As in previous years, your workshop fees will go to support the work of FWF.

LET'S TALK, FWA's Collection #3, was released at the Conference. Isn't that a great cover?
CONGRATULATIONS TO THE TOP TEN WINNERS according to W. Bruce Cameron. In the order of his choosing, they are Greave Contact by Doreen L. Myers; Traffic Stop by Klaus Gansel; The Pecking Order by Bob Hart; A Dilemma by Carolyn Evans; Face Time by Cynthia Mallick; Character Assassination by Mary Ann Zahl; Yes, Officer by Bryan Mooney; Troubled Water by Michael King; Extermination by Philip L. Levin; and Big Fish by John J. White. The other fifty entries appear in the book after these, in alphabetical order by the author's last name.

JULIE COMPTON HAS BEEN NAMED THE PERSON OF RENOWN for the FWA Collection #4, My Wheels, to be published in 2012. Julie is the author of two books, Tell No Lies and Rescuing Olivia. The novel that became Tell No Lies was a second-place winner in the 2004 Royal Palm Literary Awards.
The competition opens early next year. We'll let you know as soon as the submission guidelines are available.
COLLECTION #5, It's a Crime, will be published in 2013. R.J. Ellory is the Person of Renown.

PALM CITY WORD WEAVERS GROUP has grown from two people to an amazing forty-three regular attendees Under the leadership of FWA's vice president, Leona Bodie. She's bringing in two Critique Group Leaders to help. Welcome Chuck Waldron and Janie Fuller to our growing list of Writers Group Leaders and Critique Group Leaders!
VOLUNTEER NEEDED TO ASSIST FWA SECRETARY. You'll craft, print, and laminate membership cards and handle weekly mail-outs. Please have experience with Word, Excel and mail merge and have a color printer. All supplies are provided. To apply, email Elaine Senecal with your name and phone number so she can contact you.

FLORIDA WRITERS FOUNDATION NEWS

The Sleepover Surprise, a children's picture book written by FWA member, Mims Cushing and illustrated by Alan Phillips of Jacksonville, Florida, was chosen by The Kiwanis Club of Sunshine City, St. Petersburg, Florida to give to children at Woodlawn Elementary School in St. Petersburg, Florida. Kiwanis volunteers will read the book to youngsters in several classes and then present Cushing's book to each child.
The Kiwanis purchased 95 of Cushing's books through a grant from the Florida Writers Foundation, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization established to promote literacy and enhance writing skills in children, youth, and adults.
