SNEAK PEEK AT CONFERENCE WORKSHOPS. In the next couple of weeks, we'll post the Conference Schedule of Events, which will describe the workshops and other conference activities in detail. For a sneak peek, check the workshop listing on page two of the conference's promotional brochure or check the workshop spreadsheet.
CRITIQUE DEADLINES EXTENDED. If you missed the deadline to submit your work for critique, we have good news for you: the deadline has been extended to September 30. FWA's conference critique faculty can still critique your work and give you one-on-one feedback at the conference. Details...
DON'T FORGET THESE DEADLINES: September 15 last day to submit ads and book trailers; September 19 last day for guaranteed FWA discounted room rates at the Orlando Marriott Lake Mary; starting September 23 there is an increase to conference registration fees; October 3 online conference registration closes; October 6 last day for mail-in conference registrations; October 13 last day for online bookstore registration; October 14 last day for authors to send bookstore forms to the bookstore chairperson. Details...
BANQUET REMINDER. Some of you have asked if you may bring your nonmember spouse or friend to Saturday's RPLA Banquet. Yes! You may! While the conference itself is limited to registered members, your family and friends are welcome at the Banquet. Just sign them up online or by mail. There's nothing like being around loved ones on a gala occasion, particularly if you're up for a prestigious RPLA award! |
WRITING LESSONS FROM A BESTSELLER
| | IT'S TWO-FOR-ONE DAY at the Florida Writers Foundation's Celebrity Workshop October 20, 2011, at the Orlando Marriott Lake Mary. Not only will New York Times bestselling author Steve Berry discuss the craft of writing, but also his wife Elizabeth will address the business end of things. What could be better? (We've even extended the discount for registration to September. But don't delay, seating is limited.) Details...

FWA'S YOUTH WRITERS PROGRAM needs volunteers to help plan and coordinate Florida youth writing groups. If you are a go-getter, a natural planner or organizer, a group leader, teacher or school administrator, a tech guru or blogger, or someone who is simply passionate about helping young people explore their creativity through writing, we need your skills! If you want to help this fledgling program off the ground and make a difference in the lives of Florida's Youth, contact Blanche Baxter.
CALLING ALL CHILDREN'S AUTHORS. If you'd like to have your book selected for a new literacy collaboration between The Florida Writers Foundation, Kiwanis, and Florida school systems, contact Chrissy Jackson. Send your name along with your book's title, price, and age level.
SERENA SCHREIBER, manager of FWA's online bookstore, reported the results of the name-the-bookstore-contest. Congratulations and a t-shirt to Jessica Ruth Greene who dreamed up The Top Shelf. To learn how your book can be on the virtual shelves, click here.
BRUCE KUBEC has started a critique group in Casselberry just for writers of full-length novels.
GROUP LEADERS ARE NEEDED as FWA continues to support writers across the state. Contact Jackie Fullerton about starting a group in Miami, Aventura, Coral Gables, East Ocala, or taking over the reins of the Christian Pen chapter in the Lady Lakes area. |
