NOTES ON THE 7th ANNUAL FWA CONFERENCE
|

THE FWA CONFERENCE IN NUMBERS: 303 total registrations....
278 pre-registrations & 25 walk-ins.... 202 Royal Palm Literary
Awards Contest entries.... 12 new people joined FWA.... at least 200
manuscripts or partials requested by the 10 agents/acquisition
editors/publishers in attendance.... at least 5 writers who were told
for sure they would be published.... 31 workshop sessions.... 1 truly
hilarious keynote address by Eliot Kleinberg and
a lucrative one by C. Hope Clarke.... 6 delicious meals prepared by an
award-winning chef.... 1 spectacular night-time shuttle launch.... 1
successful Florida Writers Foundation fundraiser to support
literacy.... scads of door prizes and silent auction items won.... cartons of books
sold and autographed.... countless inspirations, ideas, tips, connections,
smiles, and new friendships.
VOLUNTEERS CELEBRATED: Pictured here are just some of the volunteers who worked hard to make the conference so successful. FWA VP Chrissy Jackson
was crowned "Queen" at the conference in recognition for her leadership
and boundless wisdom, energy, and good spirit. Volunteers, too numerous
to name here, were awarded certificates in thanks for their service to FWA.
Writers Group Leader Claudette Parmenter received the President's Award for her gracious and dedicated leadership. Treasurer Anne Linne'
received the Vice President's Award for creating FWA's beautiful
website and shopping cart with one hand while she managed FWA's money
with the other.
Thanks to Karen Lieb's extraordinary photography skills and energy, a conference play-by-play in pictures is available for all to see.
CONGRATULATIONS TO RPLA WINNERS. A list of winners has been posted in the FWA Network and will appear on the website shortly.

Dr. Lorraine Haataia leads a new affiliate -- First Coast Christian Writers in Jacksonville. Jane S. Dunn has been appointed to lead a second Naples chapter. Martha Powers has stepped up to lead the Melbourne group.
And now for something completely different! Chris Hamilton has been appointed to lead FWA's new Virtual Group. Chris will use of a variety of Internet technologies to offer FWA members opportunities for learning and collaboration--without regard to where members are located. He has already started a virtual critique group with privacy controls in the FWA Network. (The only writers group meeting you can come to in your pajamas.) If you want to participate, contact Chris by email.
