2010 Bike to Work Day

Friday, May 21

The Ballston pit stop was hosted by Conte's Bike Shop and the Ballston Partnership. DJ Neekola entertained the crowd while volunteers handed out t-shirts at registration. The Partnership was also giving out Ballston Partnership chip clips and The Guide, the official map & directory for the Ballston and Virginia Square neighborhoods.

County Board Member Walter Tejada stopped by to check out things and an old fashioned Penny Farthing bicycle from the 1800s attracted a lot of attention.

The weather was great, so almost all of the registered attendees showed up, including many day-of registrants as well.

District of Columbia and Arlington Launch Regional Bike Sharing Program
Public invited to participate in naming the bike sharing program

Both Arlington and the District have each signed contracts for what will become a regional bike sharing system later this year. Mayor Adrian M. Fenty, Arlington County Board Chairman Jay Fisette and District Department of Transportation Director (DDOT) Gabe Klein have announced  joint effort to expand bike sharing tenfold in the Washington area.

The District and Arlington County are asking the public to get involved by participating in a survey to help pick the name of the new bike sharing system.

Go to www.goDCgo.com to vote for your favorite name or to suggest a new one.  Everyone gets only one vote but you should vote quickly.  The voting will only be open for a limited time and all votes must be submitted by 5 PM on June 4, 2010.
