"I lead laughter yoga in assisted living facilities. It was worth every penny and getting lost in Keswick to be here and be around lively, fun people. I am very refreshed!"

New Lee Park Laughter Yoga!
We need volunteers

Every morning from 8-9a, Jon & Leigh will be leading Laughter Yoga in Lee Park, downtown Charlottesville. We expect a diverse crowd once the word about the class spreads, but at first, we're hopefully going to recruit a few homeless folks to join us.

Our homeless population is at greater risk to develop substance abuse and/or other behavioral disorders. Laughter is a universal language and exercise that can help break any toxic patterns and replace them with creativity, hope and joy. It's possible for anyone.

I've volunteered for almost a year at the regional jail with women inmates. Their moods and stress levels, according to their comments, are radically improved due to laughing more. One inmate also ditched her inhaler after about 10 classes. I'd like to see similar changes in the lives of our homeless folks.

Please contact Leigh @ 434-964-8152 or info@yogalaughs.com if you're interested in participating. The more, the merrier for this class, especially if you have a place in your heart for the homeless.

This class will start Monday, June 29th at 8 a.m. in Lee Park.

"It's a time for me to be silly - to be 6 or 7 years old again. My Mom is very ill and these classes will be even more important to me in the coming weeks." -- Ms. Nancy Grim, a regular participant.

From Leigh...

We need to play. It seems to me that by the time we reach adulthood, given all the time we have "growing up," we should be experts at playing.

The art of Laughter Yoga is not needing a reason or external source of humor in order to laugh. We can laugh on command. That could be a good place to start. Sometimes, it seems like that may be the only place to start.

Maybe go to the park over lunch and swing for a while. Watch water surge by in a stream and move the rocks around with a stick. Play with your kids. Rediscover the wonder of your world, even if it's painful - even if it requires vision beyond yourself - courage. Play truth or dare with friends. I dare you!

In July, we're having a refresher course on how to laugh for no reason and use compassionate communication to revitalize our relationships. A part of teaching both concepts involves reconnecting with our spirit of play. We invite you to attend and grow younger and stronger. Come learn seriously helpful skills and... play with us!
