Dear Friends and Colleagues,
Well it has been
a fun and busy summer here at Hired Power. We haven't written our newsletter in
awhile (still looking for that PR intern that can't wait to work with us ).
Although we often try to put a theme to our newsletter the general one we most
often come back to is Gratitude. It may be a repeat but I don't think it can be
overdone as all of us have those in our life we are grateful for. Recently a
very dear and beautiful friend of mine was re-diagnosed with breast cancer-
round three- Where for many people this
would take the wind from their sails, my friend took the news as another
opportunity to appreciate the people and gifts she has in her life. What a
perspective. Is it that the people in
our field are just amazing or are we getting more enlightened to what is really
important in our daily lives? I think maybe both. I have included the entire
note from my friend, although personal, her message of Strength, Hope and
Gratitude is amazing. Thank you to all of you who have been and continue to be
a part of Hired Power's Winged Formation!!
P.S. -- Although
there is a lot in my life I am grateful for -- I know my favorite gratitude this
summer was the birth of my GRANDSON Brody Andrew Michael Fitzpatrick on June
10, 2010.
All my best,Your Ally in Good Health!

Winged Formation - Love, Tracy
This thank you is a little late; because
I just can't seem to find the right words to express my gratitude for all the love, support,
positive energy and friendship coming my way from the amazing women in my
life. It is hard to put into words just how big and full my heart is
because of all of you. I feel peaceful, energized and a lot has to
do with you, my family/my friends.
I read something the other day
and want to share with you. Thanks for lending me power on this
journey! I feel empowered by your love/support to take on the challenges
ahead. I'm blessed and grateful! Winged Formation - Birds Fly In A
V As
they swoop, drift, and glide, inscribing magnificent patterns across the sky,
birds are serene displays of grace and beauty. Long a source of inspiration,
birds can be messengers from the spirit realm, or a symbol of the human soul,
as they cast off their earthly mooring and soar heavenward. An upturned wing, a
graceful flutter, all so effortless and free... More magnificent still is the
inspiring sight of birds migrating, progressing steadily across the horizon in
a solid V formation that is a singular pattern too unique to be mere chance.
Pushing steadily forward, this aerodynamic V reduces air resistance for the
whole flock. With wings moving in harmony, the feathered group continues its
course across the sky, covering more ground together in community than as
individuals. When the bird at the front gets tired, she will move to the rear
of the formation where the wind drag is lowest, and a more rested bird can take
her place.
By learning from the example of our winged guides, all of us can feel empowered
to take on daring challenges as we chart adventurous courses. Feel the strength
of others moving alongside you, as their presence lends power to your wings
during this journey across the sky of life. When buffeted by unexpected gusts,
we can choose to find refuge in the loving shelter of friends and family. We
may even marvel as an otherwise difficult day passes by like a swift wind, as a
kindred spirit charts a way for us through the clouds and rain ahead. If your
wings begin to ache on your journey, look around for somebody else to fly at
the front for a while. All of us move faster when we move together.
THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Love,
Tracy Life is a Journey, not a Destination!

Benefits of Monitoring as a Continuum of Care
by Jill Nugent, HP Monitoring Case Manager
On September 15th, 1986, President Ronald Regan signed an Executive Order requiring federal
agencies to establish an employee drug-testing program. What became of this Executive Order was
Agencies from the Department of Transportation to the United States Coast Guard,
from the FAA to the Federation of State Physicians Health Programs made drug
and alcohol testing mandatory. It was
simply called "Monitoring".
The system that we, in the addiction
treatment industry, are familiar with is the physician health programs. As
stated in a public policy statement by the FSPH, (Federation of State Physician
Health Program) the purpose of monitoring physicians was to support their
recovery, monitor their success and to intervene with difficulties.
Based on the collective clinical
experience of the FSPHP members, long-term recovery was documented for
physicians at a success rate of over eighty percent with twelve months
monitoring and ninety percent with five years continuous recovery monitoring.
This system has been adapted as a standard of care by professional
organizations that oversee licensing for pilots, lawyers, dentists and
pharmacists.
Why should Physicians and other licensed
professionals receive better substance abuse care than every other person who
suffers from the chronic disease of addiction?
Families and employers spend thousands
of dollars supporting their loved ones and employees' treatment, but the
aftercare piece remains an unsettled issue.
Hired Power's Long Term Monitoring Program is a cost effective solution to the continuum
of care. The monitoring program creates a comprehensive accountability
partnership with the clients, employers, families and clinical support teams
It is documented that physicians and other licensed professionals, who
have participated in monitoring for
five years have a 90% success rate. Every client and family that
struggles with the disease of addiction deserves the opportunity to establish
this same success rate.
The monitoring facts and
benefits are:
Daily check-ins =
Accountability
Random Urine Drug
Screens = Sober Assurance
Weekly Phone Calls =
Sober Support
Monthly Reports =
Documentation
At Hired Power our goal
is to provide an accountability platform for our clients, families, referring professionals,
and employers. The Hired Power Long Term
Monitoring Program facilitates a collaborative process between the recovering
client and the identified support people.
We are currently contracting directly with treatment centers and
outpatient providers to establish a seamless aftercare transition plan for
their clients. Hired Power's Monitoring provides a value based service and
documents third party outcomes for each center. Additional Case Management Services are available on an individualized
basis for clients and families.

Hired Power Certified PRA Spotlight
(we keep our faces to ourselves)
Meet David L.
David L. Has worked as a
Certified Personal Recovery Assistant with Hired Power for several years. David
brings a wealth of community service, ethics and integrity to his work. He has
a strong passion for people and a commitment to those he serves. I think the
best way to share David's story with you is to include a short speech written
for class by his son.
Hero speech I know that many of your
heroes are probably well known people like George Washington, Abraham Lincoln,
and Martin Luther King. Maybe they are professional athletes like Michael
Jordan, Reggie Bush, or Brett Farve. These people are indeed heroes, but in my
life, I have a hero that may not be known to many of you. My hero happens to be
my very own father, David L. My father has dedicated his entire life to the service
of protecting his country and his community. He sacrifices his personal safety
for the safety and security of others. My father joined the Marines at the age
of 19 after finishing high school. He served as a military police officer and
was stationed at the El Toro Marine Core Air Station. After he finished his
military service my father, like his father before him became a Sheriffs
Officer. He put his life on the line everyday for over twenty years, making
sure the people and communities he serves are safe. My father is not only a
hero to me because he helps protect our country, our people, and our
communities, but he is also a role model to me and many others as well. He
works hard to make a living and support our family, and always tries his best to
make everyone satisfied. He has always put everything and everyone before
himself, and truly cares about the feelings and emotions of others. My father, David L, is a very courageous,
brave, loyal man who always sticks to his word and leads by example. He treats
everyone with respect and love, and in my eyes, these traits make him a real
hero..........
We are grateful to David for his dedication to recovery and
his ability to mentor others as part of the Hired Power team!! Feel free
to request David L. for you or your client.
