Characterization
And Acting For Adults
Dates: October 12 -
October 19 (Wednesdays from 5pm - 7pm)
Ages 18 and up
Description:
Come look at a few scripts with us as we break down the characters and
discuss what makes them work on stage. We will be using techniques from
Stanislavsky and Michael Shurtleff as well as some basic tools for
characterization. You will be able to audition better and after getting
that role, play all your character's strengths and weaknesses.
Instructor: Heather Lease
Heather Lease graduated with a BA in Musical Theatre and English and is
currently a Music and Drama teacher for 1st through 8th graders at
Ventura Missionary School. Heather has performed in numerous shows as
well as directing, assistant directing, designing hair and makeup, and
stage managing. Heather also recently produced 12 ANGRY MEN for The
Conejo Players.

Children's
Audition Workshop with a Mock Audition
Dates: November 12 -
November 19 (Saturdays from 10am - 4pm)
First weekend is workshop; second weekend is a mock audition.
Ages 6 to 16
Description:
Spend the day at the theater learning what to expect at an audition,
then practicing the skills you learn. On the first day, you will learn
about cold reading, dancing, singing and improvisation. Day 2, you will
“audition” just like you would for a real show and receive written
feedback from local theater experts.

Beginning
Monologue Development
Dates: November 20
(Sunday from 5pm - 9pm)
Ages 18 and up
Description:
This course will identify how to “build your bag of monologues” –
choosing pieces that are “right for you.” Students will learn how to
“score” a piece to achieve the best results and how to approach
learning and practicing their selections.
Instructor: Lucien Jervis
I have been actively involved in the Conejo Players since 1980, and I
am an Honorary Life Member and Golden Sweatshirt Award honoree. During
the first years of the C.A.T. Program, I served as the “Acting Coach”
for the program by holding acting classes in my home (from 1980 through
1985). In the early 90’s, I served for a number of years as the
Harlequin Newsletter Editor. For the past 14 years, I have served as
the theatre’s Media Director, and I am also a member of the Board. Over
the years, I’ve volunteered in varying capacities (Director, Producer,
Costume Designer, Set Designer, Set Decorator, Lobby Board Designer,
and Production Crew), starting as the director of MARY, MARY in 1982 to
my most recent production, last year’s HEAVEN CAN WAIT. Professional
theatrical and business career: Master of Fine Arts degree from the
University of California at Irvine; University Professor of Theatrical
Arts at Florida Atlantic University (providing instruction in acting,
directing, stage movement, mime, and acting for the camera); casting
director for feature films; and executive management professional (Vice
President of Human Resources).
