 IN THE NEWS: Conejo Players Theatre Honored by the AMGEN Foundation As printed in the Ventura County Star The Conejo Players Theatre and the Theatre’s business advisor, Deidre Parmenter, were recently honored with a $5,000.00 grant from the Amgen Foundation thanks to the volunteer contributions of Ms. Parmenter. Each year, thousands of Amgen staff generously devote their personal time, energy and talents to a variety of charitable organizations. Ms. Parmenter is one of 11 recipients of the 2011 Amgen Excellence in Volunteering Awards. The Conejo Players Theatre was selected by a panel of internal and external reviewers, based on the impact of Ms. Parmenter’s volunteer efforts, frequency of her volunteer activity, the length of time committed, and a letter of recommendation from the Conejo Players Theatre. In addition, to her service on the Board of Directors for the theatre, Ms. Parmenter has been instrumental in the development of the Children’s Theatre program at The Players and a community outreach program which offers a variety of theatrical workshops covering everything from in front of the footlights to behind the scenes. “Amgen values the commitment staff make to positively impact the organizations and causes they are passionate about,” said Jean Lim Terra, president of the Amgen Foundation. “The Amgen Excellence in Volunteering Awards not only honor outstanding staff efforts, but also recognize nonprofits for the difference they make in our communities.” The Conejo Players Theatre is currently celebrating its’ 53rd season and is proud to be the oldest, non-profit, community theatre in the State. This honor from the Amgen Foundation joins a long list of honors recognizing the theatre’s contributions to the cultural development of the Conejo Valley. As a non-profit, this grant is a welcome addition to an organization that survives solely on box office receipts.
