PLOT SUMMARY:
A story of
creation, love, hate, adventure (and sex), The Rocky Horror Show is the
musical that created a sensation, spawning the cult film which is still
running 35+ years after its premiere in 1975, earning it the title of
the longest-running theatrical release in film history. With two hugely
successful Broadway runs under its belt (1975 at the Belasco and 2000
at Circle in the Square), along with thousands of off-Broadway and
regional runs, Richard O’Brien’s The
Rocky Horror Show is finally making its way to the Conejo
Valley. It’s time to come on out and “do the Time Warp” with The Conejo
Players this Summer! And if you are adventurous, strap on those
stilettos Tim Curry-style and check out the midnight Audience
Par-tici-PATION shows on July 8th and 15th - all the Transylvanians
will be out, in their best attire!
A
nontraditional slant on classic 1950s horror flicks, our story begins
in Denton, Ohio, with the engagement of Brad Majors and Janet Weiss. As
they travel through a rainstorm to see "the man who began it," they
stumble upon the castle of Dr. Frank-N-Furter. Upon taking refuge
inside, the doctor's odd servants (Magenta and Riff-Raff) usher them
into the lab for a party celebrating the unveiling of Frank's newest
creation: the perfect man, Rocky. Over the course of the night, Frank
seduces the unsuspecting couple, Janet gets in touch with a new side of
herself, and with the arrival of Dr. Everett Scott, the guests discover
that Frank is actually from another place entirely - the planet
Transsexual in the galaxy Transylvania, to be specific! Frank reveals
that he has succeeded in creating the Sonic Transducer, "an
audio-vibratory physiomolecular transport device" capable of "breaking
down solid matter and then projecting it through space and, who knows,
perhaps even time itself!" With the clock ticking, the servants rebel
and Janet and Brad are thrown to the mercy of the aliens... What will
happen to these two lovebirds? You'll have to do the Time Warp to find
out! Like the classic cult film, this deliberately kitschy, rock-gothic
"Science-Fiction Double Feature" is a sure-fire way to get your heart
thumping! Visit www.conejoplayers.org
