KiOR Will Sell Biocrude to Hunt Refining Co.

Texas-based KiOR  has announced it signed an agreement with Hunt Refining to purchase the product of its Columbus, MS facility.  This is a major step for KiOR, which will produce a product referred to as "Re-Crude."  Officials from the company have estimated that the Columbus plant will produce about 800 barrels of Re-Crude per day, and that two other facilities, located in central and southwest Mississippi, will each produce somewhere between 1500 and 2000 barrels per day.  KiOR has also recently received a term sheet for a loan guarantee supporting an over $1-billion project from the United States Department of Energy's Loan Guarantee Program.

Officials with KiOR expressed excitement about the offtake agreement.  CEO Fred Cannon stated that it would help the company to bring "renewable fuels to market and being reducing the country's dependence on foreign oil while creating quality jobs" and economic opportunities to Mississippi.  Officials with Hunt Refining also express enthusiasm, pointing out that the agreement helps fulfill the nation's Renewable Fuel Standard while "providing a boost to rural economies."
