Shale Gas:
ED Opportunity or Environmental Threat?

The U.S. presently has an oversupply of natural gas. This oversupply is attributable mostly to recent discoveries in Shale Gas,  which is already remaking every state's competitive position and every energy project's economics. But the extraction technique necessary to produce this gas has fueled a national policy debate on its environmental impact.

Taimerica Kicks Off NE IN Project
Taimerica is teaming with the Northeast Indiana Foundation, WorkOne (the Workforce Investment Board for Northern Indiana), and the Community Research Institute at IPFW (the largest university in Northeast Indiana) to develop a competitiveness and workforce development strategy for Northeast Indiana. Among the innovations in the project are data and analysis from Monster.Com on the skill needs in emerging industries like alternative energy. The project will develop a roadmap for preparing workers for jobs in the region over the next decade. It will also evaluate the business climate in the region for emerging industries like alternative energy and recommend institutional and program changes needed to make Northeast Indiana the most competitive region in America's manufacturing belt. The project will be completed at the end of 2010.

Economic Development Marketing and Attraction Course a Success
The next course in the certification program administered by Taimerica for LIDEA, Economic Development Marketing and Attraction, was taught by Rob DeRocker and Mark James, on May 18-19, 2010 at the Association of Louisiana Electric Cooperatives in Baton Rouge and was a big success. The class consisted of 30 ED professionals, ED volunteers, and elected officials who worked a case study of an actual community.
