Cape Wind Offshore Wind Farm Approved by DoI
 
The $1B Cape Wind project, located offshore Massachusetts, has received approval from the federal government (Dept. of Interior).   The planned 130 turbines, spread over 24 squ. miles, could produce as much as 75% of the power demand for Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard, and Nantucket.  Opposition to the project is expected to continue.

U.S. Carbon Emissions Declined Record 7% in 2009 
 
Information released by the Energy Information Administration (EIA) indicates that CO2 (carbon dioxide) emissions declined by 7%, or 405 million metric tons, the largest decline since recordkeeping began in 1949.

Shale Gas:  ED Opportunity or Environmental Threat?
 
The U.S. presently has an oversupply of natural gas.  This oversupply is attributable mostly to recent discoveries in Shale Gas,Site Selection Magazine logo which has the potential to remake every state's competitive position and every energy project's economics.  But the extraction technique necessary to produce this gas has fueled a national policy debate on its environmental impact.

Rentech's Synthetic Jet Fuel Passes Validation Flight 
 
United Airlines has successfully conducted an engineering validation flight on the synthetic jet fuel manufactured by Rentech Inc. (RenJet).  RenJet is the only synthetic fuel certified for commercial aviation use to date, and this marks the first time a synthetic jet fuel has been tested successfully in flight.
