Port of GBR Chosen for Wood Pellet Manufacturing
Point Bio Energy has selected the Port of Greater Baton Rouge to invest more than $100 million for a facility to manufacture wood pellets for fuel generation. This project will create as many as 100 new direct jobs and 273 new indirect jobs.

Nissan Leading the Way in Industrial Efficiency
Nissan, in partnership with DOE, recently performed a comprehensive energy efficiency retrofit of its Smyrna, TN manufacturing facility that will produce energy efficient, electric cars. The first electric car under development by Nissan is the Leaf. The retrofit, part of DOE's Save Energy Now program, will save the company money on energy costs and set a higher standard for its competitors.

The American Renewable Biomass Heating Act of 2010 (S. 3188), has been introduced by a bipartsian group of US Senators to encourage businesses to meet their heating needs with renewable biomass.

Thin Films Offer Storage Potential on Chips
Thin-firm energy storage devices called ultracapacitors, made using techniques borrowed from the chip-making industry, can operate without ever being replaced. These charge-storage films could be fabricated directly onto backside of solar cells, where they could store power generated during the day for use after sundown.

DOE Funds Smart Grid Workforce Training
DOE announced on April 8 it will award nearly $100 million in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds to 54 Smart Grid workforce training programs in 32 states to train approximately 30,000 U.S. workers in Smart Grid technologies.
