Join Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada and the Las Vegas 51s as they celebrate the 100th anniversary of Girl Scouts on May 18 at Cashman Field. Players will take the field in Girl Scout 100th anniversary inspired green sash jerseys. Game time is 7:05 p.m.

 

In addition, the Las Vegas 51s will host a tennis ball toss and jersey auction to benefit Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada. 


Young Women of Distinction
Brittany Lesperance & Lillian Stolar 
Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada honored 22 Girl Scouts during its 2012 Young Women of Distinction ceremony at The Orleans Hotel & Casino May 5.

 

The Gold Award is Girl Scouts highest earned honor, and is an opportunity for a girl to put her leadership skills, career interests, and personal values together to serve her community. Gold Award recipients:

  • Jessica Joseph, 17, through community education Jessica was able to sign up more than 1000 people to be registered bone marrow donors
  • Brittany Lesperance, 17,educated the community through presentations about the needs of children in foster care, as well as planned and facilitated a Christmas Party for 350 youth enrolled in the Clark County foster care system in partnership with the Department of Family Services.   
  • Jordan Orris, 18, developed an educational flyer and leveraged the power of social media through a Facebook event page inviting her friends and neighbors to donate shoes to children in impoverished third world countries as well as to victims of natural disasters. Jordan was able to collect more than 800 shoes that will benefit individuals all over the world.
  • Lillian Stolar, 19, delivered presentations to more than 500 individuals in Nevada and Arizona, about the affects of bullying. Lily also developed an anti-bullying brochure and public service announcement; she distributed more than 1700 brochures in three different cities.

Presidential Medal of Freedom

 

On April 26, President Obama awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom to the Founder of Girl Scouts, Juliette Gordon Low.


The Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian award in the United States, recognizes individuals who have made "an especially meritorious contribution to the security or national interests of the United States, world peace, cultural or other significant public or private endeavors".

Volunteer Recognition Luncheon

Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada recently recognized volunteers during its Annual Meeting & Volunteer Recognition Luncheon celebrating 100 years of Girl Scouting.  

 

Lori Stapleton of Las Vegas and Ellen Worth of North Las Vegas received one of the Girl Scout organization's most prestigious awards, the Thanks Badge. The honor recognized their long standing commitment and hard work providing leadership opportunities for girls throughout southern Nevada. Both ladies have served in almost every volunteer position available from troop leader to special event planner. They are vital members of the Girl Scout product sales committee, which provides girls from all over southern Nevada with the opportunity to participate in the largest girl-led business in the country.

Dig ThisŪ Earth Day Celebration 


On Earth Day, Sunday April 22, Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada joined Dig ThisŪ, a heavy equipment playground in partnership with Par 3 Recycling, at a Community Wide Recycling Event. Local Girl Scouts attended and brought their recyclables totaling almost 500 pounds and earning Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada more than $100! Girls got a chance to touch a bulldozer and an excavator. Some of the teen girls even got to drive the excavator!
