2012 IS THE YEAR OF THE GIRLIn a move designed to focus national attention on girls and the issues they face, Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA) has declared 2012 the Year of the Girl: a celebration of girls, recognition of their leadership potential, and a commitment to creating a coalition of like-minded organizations and individuals in support of balanced leadership in the workplace and in communities across the country.

During the Year of the Girl, Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada will mix celebrations of the organization's 100 years as the preeminent leadership experience for girls with efforts to create a sense of urgency around girls' issues.

Here are some of the local 100th anniversary celebrations you can look forward to:

  • March 10 - Rock the Dam
  • March 20 - Alumnae/Volunteer Event - Ladies Night with the Las Vegas Wranglers

Slam Dunk! UNLV Lady Rebels and Girl Scouts

Rebels Night
Girl Scouts took to the court for some UNLV Lady Rebel action on January 6. The girls cheered the Lady Rebels on to their victory over Fresno State, 73-71. Girl Scouts took part in the action by forming a bridge for the team to run through before the game, ball girls and more. Half time and time out games featured local Girl Scouts. Girls even got to join the locker room pre-game chat! The evening concluded with girls met the UNLV Lady Rebel team in an autograph session after the game.

Easton Foundations Donates Archery Equipment

Easton Foundations provided Girl Scouts with new archery equipment that will help girls gain insight into this Olympic sport. Archery boosts mental and physical health, and improves patience, focus and flexibility. At Camp Foxtail, all girls get the chance to discover archery basics, as well as participate in archery themed camp sessions. Plus, beginning archery lessons are available to Junior through Ambassador Girl Scouts in February. For more information visit girlscoutsnv.org.
