Dear Parents:

Once again we had a busy and productive week here at RMS. The sixth grade class was introduced to Project Greatness with two back-to-back Friday sessions. Last week, Project Greatness took the boys on an in-depth study of what personal greatness means to each individual person. There were multi-media presentations in which older students shared their visions of greatness and in which the sixth graders witnessed older students performing leadership opportunities in action. This week, Project Greatness focused on how to priotize tasks and to make sure to put the "Big Rocks" in first!
This past Tuesday our seventh and eighth grade students had the privilege of hearing from Mr. Leo Rosner. Mr. Rosner, a Holocaust survivor, who was only 12 years old when the war broke out, spoke about his experiences during those harrowing years. He impressed upon the boys that unchecked hatred can lead to incomprehensible evil. We thank Mr. Rosner for taking the time to come speak to our students.
Our Media Center is already up and running this year. In addition to Reading Plus, many teachers have already brought their classes in to work on projects that complement their curriculum. Using the computers in our Media Center, the boys in Rabbi Pam's seventh grade class designed their own graphic goals to visualize their missions and produced PowerPoint projects that helped elucidate the steps of the Gemara they are currently learning.
Mr.Shuman, Head of our Math department, makes math interesting, informative and fun. He has great methods of teaching math and making it fun to learn and easy to understand. The sixth graders have begun the year reviewing basic math facts. The seventh grade has begun learning integers and the eighth grade is conquering FOIL.
Sixth grade social studies had a visitor to their classroom this past Thursday, all the way from the tip of Mrs. Ruck's mind. Ronald Ruckstone, a famous archaeologist, came to analyze and discuss what it takes to be an archaeologist and helped the boys analyze household items that would become artifacts 1000 years from now. Next week the boys will become archaeologists for a day and explore, discover and excavate right here in RMS.
Many thanks to Boaz Sobol (grade 8) for his contributions to this week's newsletter.
Wishing you and your families a Ksiva Vchasima Tova! We look forward to seeing you all back after Yom Tov!
Have a Great Shabbos.
