5 Tips to keep your training on the right track!        

As you begin to train for this year's event, here are 5 easy tips to help keep you on the right track.

  1. Stretch, stretch, stretch! Stretching can take as little as 10 minutes, but provides multiple benefits to the body such as decreasing pain and soreness after exercise, improving circulation and even helping you to relax.

Proper stretching techniques to help you stay injury free:

  • Perform balanced stretching. This means you should always stretch the muscles on both sides of your body evenly. Don't stretch one side more than the other.
  • Avoid over-stretching. Never stretch to the point of pain or discomfort. You will feel slight tension or a pull on the muscle at the peak of a stretch.
  • Go slow! Always stretch slowly and evenly. Hold the

Mom was right; breakfast is the most important meal of the day! Breakfast fuels your muscles for activity, increases your productivity and increases the rate you burn calories. It also decreases the rate you store calories in your fat cells. It has been discovered that people who skip breakfast have a harder time losing weight, take in more calories during the day and have higher blood cholesterol which in turn increases their risk for heart disease. Most people skip breakfast due to lack of time to eat in the morning or perceived lack of appetite. However, the body has just been trained to think it is not hungry. The reality is, your body needs breakfast to get your metabolism going again after a night of sleep.

Coach Frostick

Try to do some shorter distance races than your Shamrock goal race during your fall season to work on gaining race experience and faster pacing.  If the Yuengling Shamrock Marathon is your goal, try to get a good half marathon or 10 mile effort in the fall/winter.  If your goal is the Anthem Half Marathon concentrate on a 10k or 10 miler.  If your goal is the TowneBank 8k get in some fast 5k's.  This will help you perfect your pacing, gain experience and build confidence.
