RUN THE ANTHEM SHAMROCK HALF FOR A CAUSE!
| | The Anthem Shamrock Half Marathon is full for general entry spots, however there are still a limited number of charity slots available!
There are only two ways to acquire charity entries into the race. 1: Team LIVESTRONG, The American Cancer Society's DetermiNation Team and The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training each have a limited number of entries available for fundraisers. Click on their link on the charity page to learn more about their programs. 2: J&A Racing will open 300 charity slots at 9am EST on January 9, 2012. These entries will cost $200 a piece and will only be available for online purchase with 100% going to charity. The online J&A Racing Charity Slots will go fast (usually in minutes). You can click the Register Now link and on January 9 at the time indicated and you will see an option for the Charity Anthem Half Marathon registration. Once these entries are sold out, the only way to gain entry will be through fundraising for one of the charities while their limited number of entries last. |

Preston Buenaga is the nephew of Amy and Jerry Frostick and received an adaptive bike this past summer. Preston's Mom and Dad are determined that more children should have their dreams come true to ride their very own bike just like Preston! Please consider joining our mission to "pay it forward"

What do you fuel your runs with? If the answer is Energy Drinks, here are a few things you should know:
- They are not regulated by the FDA
- They may contain unsafe levels of some ingredients
- They may contain ingredients NOT listed on the label
Should I use them for hydration before, during or after exercise?
This is not recommended because of the high levels of caffeine and guarana. Both act as stimulants-increasing heart rate and blood pressure. When added to the natural effect that exercise has on the cardiovascular system, this can be dangerous. In addition, these ingredients are diuretics and inhibit the body's ability to maintain hydration or to re-hydrate.

I like to write my fitness goals down for the New Year to help keep me accountable. I have short term and long term fitness and personal goals for the new year. My long term fitness goal is to become more flexible and short term is to add a day of speed a week to my runs. Now let's hear yours!

We know you are training your legs; running, stretching, running some more etc. But it's also important not to overlook your core muscles when training for a distance race. Core strength makes you a better runner by improving your power to weight transfer and keeping your form in check as you tire. A strong core comes in very handy toward the end of the race when things start to get hard - and they will.
