Charitable bond

BIG to start distributing £5m of dormant account money to social investment projects in July  


The Big Lottery Fund will support around five social investment projects with a £5m pot of dormant account fund money while the Big Society Bank awaits approval from the European Commission. It will make the first investment as early as July this year.

Government promises greater transparency in spending on the sector  


The government has pledged to "increase transparency in central and local government spending on the voluntary sector" but has not yet set out exactly how it will do so.

An Oxford charity is threatening to take the county council to the Local Government Ombudsman because of the way its tendering process for a contract to provide support to adult carers was carried out.

Philanthropy Review claims giving could be increased by £2bn  


The Philanthropy Review has issued a "call-to-action" to businesses, philanthropists and government to adopt proposals which it says will earn charities an additional £2bn by 2015.

Everything Everywhere, the mobile telecom giant comprising Orange and T-Mobile, has become the last of the big mobile providers to drop its fees on text donations.

Catholic Care denied right to appeal but fight may continue  


The First Tier Tribunal (Charity) has rejected Catholic Care's latest appeal, stating that there were no "errors of law" in its judgement that the adoption agency could not discriminate against same-sex couples wishing to use its services.

Doorstep fundraising recruitment soars by 25 per cent in one year  


Door-to-door fundraising has bounced back with a vengeance after a slump in recruitment in 2009/2010, but overall recruitment via face-to-face fundraising remains slightly lower than the record highs of three years ago.
