Consensus is but a distant dream for the Charity Commission whose consultation on its services has attracted differing views over whether it should continue to be a friend to the sector. Meanwhile, as the Localism Bill has its second reading in the House of Commons, the minister in charge reminds us that 'community' is about the cause you represent, not just geographical location.

NCVO and CFDG at odds over Commission's advice role
 

The Charity Commission should cease giving advice on good practice and acting as a 'friend' of the sector, and focus on its regulatory role, the NCVO has suggested in its response to the Commission's strategic review consultation.

Latest Labour Force Survey figures for the third quarter of 2010 show that the voluntary sector now employs 793,000 people, a slight decrease of 2 per cent since the last quarter.
