As the sector clenches its teeth in preparation for next week's government spending review, we see the government putting forward a number of ideas as to how charities can be supported during what looks likely to be a hard time ahead. Controversial fundraising mechanisms are making the news this week too, and it's not what you think - could charity collections and telephone fundraising be the next chuggers?

New government idea: donate to local charities while shopping


The government is examining proposals for a scheme to allow people to donate to good causes in their communities by adding a nominal charge to their bills in local shops and restaurants.
